Geylang International have announced the capture of the flying winger from Tanjong Pagar United, adding to five new foreign signings made earlier
In a post on their official Facebook page on Friday morning, the Eagles confirmed the capture of the flying winger from Tanjong Pagar United.
The 25-year-old had a good season for the Jaguars in 2013 and bagged the Goal of the Season award for a stunning strike on the opening day of the season against Balestier Khalsa. He was also called up for centralised training with the national team back in May, fulfilling a childhood dream for someone who was playing in the National Football League only two years ago.
Snapped by by-then Tanjong Pagar coach Terry Pathmanathan, Hafiz then joined Home United in 2013. He saw limited action though and returned to Queenstown, becoming a key player this year under new coach Patrick Vallee. Hafiz chipped in with five goals as the Jaguars finished in the top six.
His signing comes on the back of five new foreign ones by the club, which were announced last week.
Head coach Vedhamuthu Kanan traveled to Argentina recently to scout for players and brought back a trio of Argentinians, namely midfielders Franco Chivilo (22-years-old) and Joaquin Lopez (18), and striker Leonel Felice (30). Chivilo is a former Argentina Under-20 international, while Felice has played in Vietnam for Hanoi T&T.
In addition to the three South Americans, defenders Yuki Ichikawa and Kento Fukuda have also been signed from Albirex Niigata. Japanese centre-back Norihiro Kawakami has left to join league champions Tampines Rovers, while star player and captain Jozef Kaplan moved across the Causeway to join Negeri Sembilan. Stefan Milojevic, Shotaro Ihata and Takuma Ito have all been released.
The Bedok-based side have only retained six players from their 2013 squad, namely goalkeeper Joey Sim, right-back Khairulnizam Jumahat and midfielders Nurhazwan Norasikin, Shah Hirul, Fabian Kwok and Jalal. More new signings are expected to be revealed in the coming days.
