Celtic captain and Bafana Bafana defender Thabo Nthethe has opted to extend his stay in BloemfonteinThere is no doubt that with the resignation of Clinton Larsen the club will most definitely need balance and strong leadership. With a player like Nthethe who has been at the club for some time, he will play a crucial role.
Nthethe has been a Celtic stalwart for nine years and with his three year renewal he will be eligible for a testimonial next year. Celtic fended off a strong bid from Mamelodi Sundowns who were interested in him.
The renewal proves the club is serious about keeping their top players, despite the best efforts of the so-called bigger clubs in Gauteng. The CEO Khumbulani Konco told the clubs official website that he is delighted for the loyalty shown over the years.
“Nthethe has been one of our most loyal players for nine years now, and we are delighted that he has signed a three year deal,” said Konco.
“The club’s stance is to hold on to our best players and this shows that despite offers from other teams we managed to hold on to our captain,” he added.
Nthethe is happy to renew his contract with Celtic where he displayed great leadership which saw him getting his Bafana call up.
“I am very happy to renew my contract with Bloemfontein Celtic. The club is like family to me and I am personally delighted to extend my term by a further three years,” said Nthethe.
