The Ligue 1 side are on the hunt for a new forward after selling Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to Borussia Dortmund, and their president has confirmed the Malian is on their shortlistSaint-Etienne are weighing up a move for West Ham striker Modibo Maiga as they look to find a replacement for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, according to the French club's president.
The Mali international could make a return to Ligue 1, having previously enjoyed spells at Sochaux and Lens, due to a lack of playing time under Sam Allardyce at Upton Park.
Saint-Etienne president, Roland Romeyer, confirmed Maiga could arrive on loan to help out the club's lone first-team striker Brandao.
He told beINSPORT: "Maiga is a player we have studied."
"We are not mourning Aubameyang. We have been working on replacements. We need a No. 9 to supplement Brandao who will play almost every three days as our only striker.
"We will try to find a player who can compliment the rest of the team.
"Maiga is one of the options we have looked at but there are other players. We will make a signing as soon as possible."
