Former Kenyan Premier League champions Sofapaka will hire a new coach next week in a bid to halt the poor results at the club.
Sofapaka lost 1-0 on Saturday to Muhoroni Youth in a move that prompted President Elly Kalekwa to summon the technical bench headed by coach David Ouma.
Kalekwa confirmed exclusively to Goal on Tuesday that a decision was arrived at to bring in a new coach with current holder of the position David Ouma relegated to the position of assistant coach.
“We had a crisis meeting after the weekend defeat because there is concern about our performance. It was agreed that we bring in a new head coach and he will arrive next week to take over.
“Ouma will work under him as his assistant because we want to win trophies. Sofapaka is not a team that should struggle because we have a big budget and big players.”
Kalekwa at the same time announced that the club has hired former coach Francis Kimanzi as Technical Director to offer advice to the technical bench. “Kimanzi came back as head of technical one month ago,” he confirmed.
The former Harambee Stars coach handled Sofapaka two years ago before taking up the national team appointment.
