Tottenham target David Villa will continue at Barcelona, says Rosell

Spain's all-time leading goalscorer has been the subject of bids from both Spurs and Arsenal in recently, but the club president is not expecting the striker to depart Camp Nou
Tottenham target David Villa will remain a Barcelona player "until someone says the opposite", according to president Sandro Rosell.

Spain's all-time leading goalscorer has found first-team opportunities at Camp Nou increasingly difficult to come by in recent seasons after breaking his leg in December 2011.

4/5 David Villa is 4/5 with BetVictor to join Tottenham this summer
Villa is thought to be keen for a fresh start and Spurs, as exclusively revealed by Goal in May, are willing to adjust their strict wage bill to seal the striker's signature in a £10 million deal - but Rosell does not expect the player to depart.

"Until somebody says the opposite, David Villa will remain a Barcelona player," Rosell told reporters.

Villa refused to comment on the rumours, adding: "I have a contract and I have always said that I'm very happy in Barcelona.

"Throughout my career I have always been respectful of my current club. Right now I'm just thinking about doing a good job in Brazil [at the Confederations Cup] and then we will see.

"We will have to analyse many things during the summer, but as of right now I'm not thinking of anything else other than playing football for Spain."

Arsenal were also keen on Villa recently, hoping to lure the striker to the Emirates Stadium in January, but failed with a last-ditch attempt.
