Benteke might not play as many games at a bigger club, warns Paul Lambert

The Aston Villa striker has attracted the interest of a host of clubs after a superb debut season in the Premier League but the Scottish manager advises him to think carefully
Paul Lambert has warned Christian Benteke that his career could stall if he moves to a bigger club and is not afforded the same first-team opportunities that he enjoys with Aston Villa.

5/1 Christian Benteke is 5/1 with BetVictor to join Atletico Madrid before September 1
The Belgian enjoyed a spectacular debut season in English football, scoring 19 Premier League goals after his £7 million move from Genk as Villa survived the drop.

That has led to interest from the likes of Atletico Madrid but Lambert believes that Benteke may better serve his development by remaining at Villa Park.

"If you take that gamble to move to one of these huge clubs, then you might not play as many games," the Scottish boss told talkSPORT.

"Footballers want to play. If they're hungry enough, then that's half the battle. The pressure on a young player moving is high.

"He's still a young lad learning the game and developing into a man."
