Weimann to be offered new Aston Villa deal to fend off suitors

The Austrian forward has enjoyed a successful full season in the first team and will be rewarded with a pay rise amid interest from the club's Premier League rivals
Aston Villa will hand Andreas Weimann a new contract to ensure he remains at Villa Park amid interest from other clubs, the striker's agent has confirmed.

The Austrian scored 12 times in his first full season in Paul Lambert's first-team squad, playing an important role in keeping the Villans in the Premier League.

A string of impressive performances have reportedly attracted interest from the likes of Sunderland, Newcastle and Norwich but his representative, Robert Groener, revealed that he will be offered a new deal to remain at the club.

"There is a meeting planned and we hope we can come to a successful conclusion," Groener told reporters.

"Andi will stay in the Premier League, but at which club I do not know at this moment. There are offers, but we will first meet Villa and listen to them."

Uncertainty also surrounds the future of his strike partner, Christian Benteke, who is also highly sought after by the likes of Dortmund and Tottenham following an impressive debut season in England.

Paul Lambert, meanwhile, is reportedly hoping to reunite Ashley Westwood with his former Crewe team-mates Luke Murphy and Aaron Cresswell.
