Schalke attacker Julian Draxler has admitted that Borussia Dortmund approached him to be a potential successor to Mario Gotze.
In the immediate aftermath of the 20-year-old's move to Bayern Munich, BVB were linked with a controversial move for the teenager.
Draxler insisted that he would have to be "brainwashed" to join his club's rivals but has confirmed that there was contact with his entourage.
"Nobody spoke to me, but went to my agent immediately after the Gotze transfer," he was quoted as saying by Bild.
"The request was polite and politely declined."
Schalke general manager Horst Heldt, meanwhile, also says there was interest from Signal Iduna Park in the 19-year-old.
"Dortmund tracked Draxler for some time," he told Sport Bild.
"It is strange that on one hand, Dortmund complain about Gotze to Bayern but act like this in other cases."
Draxler sat out Schalke's 2-1 loss to Stuttgart on Saturday due to suspension.
