The 20-year-old has joined the Scottish Premier League outfit until May after falling down the pecking order due to recent signings and Yohan Cabaye's return from injury
Newcastle United midfielder Mehdi Abeid has joined St Johnstone on a loan deal until the end of the season.

The 20-year-old has joined the Scottish Premier League until May to get game time after only making five appearances since joining in 2011.

5/1 Newcastle are 5/1 with William Hill to be relegated
He is yet to make a Premier League appearance for the club, but has featured in cup competitions - the most recent being the 2-0 defeat at Brighton in the FA Cup.

Abeid on his official Twitter page said: "Départ for saint johnstone on loan for the rest of the season! #needa game!”

The former Lens youngster made his debut against Nottingham Forest in the League Cup last season and has featured in the Europa League against Maritimo and Bordeaux.

Fellow Magpies players Paul Dummet and Conor Newton are also in Scotland, on loan at St Mirren, and the trio will come face-to-face this Saturday.

St Johnstone manager Steve Lomas looked to the Premier League after long-term injuries to David Robertson, Jamie Adams and Gary Miller.

Abeid has fallen down the pecking order at Newcastle following the recent January signing of Moussa Sissoko and the return from injury of Yohan Cabaye.
