Fellow France international Loic Remy completed a move to the Premier League's bottom club, QPR, earlier in January and Deschamps believes that players from Ligue 1 should be switching to better clubs.
He told L'Equipe21: "The last Premier League team can buy any Ligue 1 player.
"Yanga-Mbiwa? I don't know if he did the right choice. We'll see. I think he didn't have any choice.
"If Real Madrid, Juventus, or Bayern Munich came knocking, then he wouldn't choose Newcastle.
"Newcastle could also be a springboard for him."
