thumbnail Hello,

The 17-year-old defender has become a key part of Nigel Adkins' side so far this season since making his top-flight debut back in November, featuring 14 times for the Saints

Southampton left-back Luke Shaw has ended any speculation linking him with a move to either Arsenal or Chelsea by committing his long-term future to the club.

The 17-year-old has been a mainstay in the club's back four for the best part of two months on his way to making 11 league appearances, with his mature displays attracting interest for many of the nation's top clubs and drawing comparisons with both Gareth Bale and Ashley Cole in the process.

However, given that he is already being granted first-team football, at a club which boasts a fine tradition for helping young players, Shaw sees no reason to move anytime soon.

"I've spoken with the chairman about a long-term plan for me at the club and just to end all speculation, I will be committing my future to Southampton," he told the club's official website. "I'm not going anywhere. I think Southampton is the place to be for young kids like me.

"I'm playing in the Premier League in the first team and that's what anyone wants to be doing and I just want to carry on doing that.

"If you look back, you've had Ads [Lallana] come through the youth system, and now he's captain of the first team. Prowsey [James Ward-Prowse] has just signed a new deal and that's what I want to be doing."

Southampton are currently separated from the relegation zone only by goal difference, but Shaw firmly believes that they have enough quality in the squad to beat the drop this term.

He added: "I think we can stay in the Premier League, we've played some superb football but the luck's just not gone our way recently.

"We've got a few games, not easy games, but games we can get some points out of so hopefully we can go and do that."
