The attacking midfielder struck three for Chelsea to be the week's clear standout in the Premier League, while there was frustration for Laurent Koscielny and Nikica Jelavic
No striker? No problem. Jose Mourinho may have got into some hot water last week for his comments before Chelsea's Champions League exploits but it was a fine time for Andre Schurrle (7.5) to step up with a hat-trick from midfield to become the fantasy game's standout player.
Nearly a third of the German's total points for the season were picked up on Saturday as he took three fine goals so, despite his price, it comes as something of a shock performance and the 2.57 per cent of players with him in their team will be pleasantly surprised.
Schurrle was five points clear of his closest rival, Newcastle's Moussa Sissoko (5.5). The Magpies' 4-1 win over Hull City may have been overshadowed by Alan Pardew's headbutt but the midfielder plundered two goals for a 12-point haul, taking his season's tally up to a respectable 85.
It has been a little while since we last saw Luis Suarez (10) in the weekly winners but the Uruguayan was back on scoring form at Southampton. In his 100th Premier League appearance, the Liverpool star netted a goal, bagged an assist and won a penalty. Not bad for a day's work and he is still comfortably clear at the top of the individual overall rankings.
Christian Benteke (8) has had an up-and-down season, failing to fully deliver on his increased price, but two goals against Norwich City were a welcome boost to the 26.46% of fantasy managers who have kept faith in him thus far.
At the back, the standout was Leighton Baines (7). As he prepared to cement his place as England's first-choice left-back in midweek, the Everton star delivered an assist and a clean sheet in a solid 1-0 win.
|GAMEWEEK 28 DREAM TEAM
In a gameweek free from own goals and red cards, nobody had a truly hideous outing that left them with the dreaded minus points. There were, however, some notable flops.
The most obvious was from Arsenal, whose title bid took a big hit from a 1-0 defeat to Stoke City. The likes of Laurent Koscielny (5), who conceded the game-losing penalty for a score of just one, and Olivier Giroud (7.5), who worked hard but could convert none of his effort into anything beyond points for participation, were the biggest disappointments for fantasy bosses.
Southampton's defence have been one of the best bargains in the game this season but it was a tough outing for Jose Fonte (4) against Liverpool's much-feted forward line. The Portuguese gave away a stoppage-time penalty to top off an evening in which he conceded three, leaving him with a flat zero for the week.
There had been high hopes for Nikica Jelavic (7) when Newcastle came to town. Since joining Hull, the striker has impressed but a yellow card and little else in that 4-1 defeat saw value-hunters left with just a single point for their gamble.
Finally, there was frustration for John Ruddy (4.5). The Norwich City goalkeeper enjoyed a clean sheet against Tottenham in his last appearance but Villa's blitz on Sunday put four past him just before his chance to push for a second England cap on Wednesday.
While there were no serious injuries or suspensions to spring up from Gameweek 28, there are one or two players whose conditions will need monitoring if they are in your team.
Pablo Hernandez (5.5) has not had the best luck with injuries at Swansea City and the winger had to withdraw again halfway through the first half against Crystal Palace. It will be worth keeping an eye out for news on any resulting absence as the Spaniard looked lively before going off.
Norwich winger Robert Snodgrass (5.5) will miss Scotland duty because of a wrist injury and may be a doubt for Gameweek 29, meanwhile, but Brede Hangeland (4.5) looks set to return to the Fulham team immediately. The defender was substituted at half-time against Chelsea with blurred vision but is out of hospital and being monitored by the club.
