Motherwell - Hibernian Betting Preview: Why backing a low-scoring contest could prove profitable

This fixture has produced plenty of goals in recent years but our Scottish tipster, William Duncan, is expecting this season's meeting to buck the trend
Both Motherwell and Hibernian crashed out of the League Cup in midweek, so the pair will be keen to bounce back when they meet at Fir Park in the Scottish Premiership on Sunday afternoon.

This has been one of the most entertaining fixtures in the Scottish football calendar in recent seasons, with the two Fir Park meetings between the sides last term producing nine goals, while the sides played out a 6-6 draw in Lanarkshire in 2010.

Stuart McCall's men have lost just one of their five league fixtures played on home turf so far this season and the Steelmen look decent value at 5/6 (1.83) with Coral to get the better of the Hibees this weekend.

Hibs, though, have claimed three of their four victories in the Scottish Premiership thus far on their travels and Pat Fenlon's men are chalked up at 11/4 (3.75) to collect all three points from Sunday's clash. The draw is priced up at 11/5 (3.20) with the same firm.

Given the propensity for goals in this fixture in recent years, it is perhaps unsurprising that Coral offer just 8/11 (1.72) for more than three goals to be scored when these sides go head-to-head. That price, though, looks to be skinny on this occasion.

The Steelmen have managed just three times in their last four matches in all competitions, while Pat Fenlon's side have netted just nine league goals this term, with just two goals coming in their last five matches in all competitions.

Furthermore, the previous meeting between these sides this term ended in a 1-0 victory for Motherwell, with Henri Anier netting inside the final 10 minutes at Easter Road.

Another win for McCall's side at 5/6 (1.83) certainly carries plenty of appeal here but, given that both sides have often struggled to get amongst the goals this season, punters are advised to snap up the even money (2.0) quote for fewer than three goals to be scored at Fir Park on Sunday afternoon.
