Robbie Keane set the record for Republic of Ireland with 126 appearances on Friday and marked the achievement with a hat-trick against Faroe Islands.

The LA Galaxy captain started in the fifth minute and wrapped up his second international treble 10 minutes from time. The 32-year-old has now scored a record 59 goals for Ireland.

The three points secured in Dublin kept Giovanni Trapattoni in the running to finish in second spot in Group C.
