The Under-21 European Championship kicks off on Wednesday evening, with the likes of England, Spain, Italy, Germany and the Netherlands all taking part in the eight-team tournament in Israel.
|STARS OF THE FUTURE
And 2013 is no different, where there is an abundance of talent to be found but just which of the potential stars of the Under-21 championship have the best chance of being the next big thing?
Bookies' favourites Spain possess an array of gifted footballers throughout their Under-21 squad although Malaga playmaker Isco, who is set to join Manchester City if Manuel Pellegrini, as expected, is installed as the club's new manager, is arguably the pick of the bunch.
Barcelona youngster Thiago Alcantara is also a highly-regarded member of the Spanish set-up and has all the attributes to develop into a mainstay in the Catalan giants' midfield in the years to come.
Germany, tournament winners in 2009, will be confident of success in Israel and will be hoping Tottenham midfielder Lewis Holtby will be in top form, with big things expected of the former Schalke star who has three caps to his name for Joachim Low's senior side.
Stuart Pearce's England, meanwhile, boast Manchester United signing Wilfried Zaha in their ranks, with the 20-year-old winger having the potential to win games on his own for the young Three Lions.
The subject of Kevin Strootman's future is set to dominate the headlines in the Netherlands over the summer, with the PSV midfielder having been linked with a move to the Premier League champions and Dick Advocaat, his manager at the Eindhoven club, is sure he's good enough for the Red Devils.
Italy's brightest prospect is PSG midfielder Marco Verratti with the 20-year-old having already racked up 27 appearances in his first season with the big-spending Ligue 1 champions, a feat that has been recognised at full international level with the former Pescara starlet claiming three caps since August last year.
What do you think? Which of the above Under-21 internationals stand the best chance of developing into a world superstar in the future?
