thumbnail Hello,

Stuart McCall's side are on course for a top-two finish in the Scottish Premier League but Willie Duncan expects a tight match when they meet the Arabs at Tannadice on Friday

Second-placed Motherwell will look to bolster their chances of a top-two finish in the Scottish Premier League when they travel to Tayside to take on Dundee United at Tannadice on Friday night.

Motherwell currently sit three points clear of nearest challengers Inverness Caledonian Thistle in the race for the runners-up spot and, with the Caley Jags not in action until Sunday afternoon, the Steelmen will look to extend that advantage on Friday.

Stuart McCall’s men are in fine form, having gone six matches without defeat and will be full of confidence for the tussle at Tannadice. Motherwell are chalked up as William Hill’s 6/4 (2.50) favourites to win the match.

Dundee United lost 4-3 to Celtic after extra time in the semi-finals of the Scottish Cup last weekend and Jackie McNamara’s side are rated as an 8/5 (2.60) chance with William Hill to claim all three points on Friday while the same firm go 12/5 (3.40) that the match ends in a draw.

William Hill’s special “headline offer” for the home side is their generous 5/1 (6.0) quote that Irish striker Jon Daly nets at any time in a win for the Terrors while the same firm go 4/1 (5.0) that Motherwell top scorer Michael Higdon is on target in an away win – another “headline offer” from the odds compilers.

This looks to be a closely contested clash with United not having lost at Tannadice since the turn of the year while Motherwell have garnered just one less point on the road so far this season than runaway league leaders Celtic.

It is also worth noting that Dundee United have drawn no fewer than five of their last six Premier League matches while United have also had more home draws than any other club in the league.

Jackie McNamara’s side have scored three and conceded just two goals in their last five league matches and another tight encounter looks to be on the cards between these evenly-matched sides.

Therefore, William Hill’s 12/5 (3.40) quote that the match ends in a draw offers considerable appeal and should be snapped up here while the 6/1 (7.0) quote from the same firm for Friday’s contest to end 1-1 is the value play.
