Valencia-Paris Saint-Germain Betting Preview: Why the visitors will take their time before scoring

Our Spanish expert Phil Kitromilides believes backing PSG to score after 40 minutes at 7/4 (2.80) offers sensational value against a leaky Valencia defence
Tonight's encounter at Mestalla looks like being a relatively close affair with home advantage and perhaps experience at this level seeing Valencia priced as the slight favourites.

Offered at 7/5 (2.40) by BetVictor, Los Che have shown plenty of determination and character in their last four matches, scoring last minute winners at Deportivo and Celta while holding both Real Madrid and Barcelona to 1-1 draws.

Paris Saint-Germain meanwhile have, on paper, been highly impressive domestically with four straight wins helping them move six points clear at the top of Ligue 1.

Yet there were boos ringing around the Parc des Princes at half time during their weekend match with Bastia as the home fans were clearly frustrated at the side's tendency to take a while to get going.

It was 0-0 at the break in a match Carlo Ancelotti's men went on to win 4-0, and they can be backed at 11/5 (3.20) to win in Spain this evening.

This being a two legged tie the emphasis will be on Valencia to try and keep a clean sheet with a score of 0-0, which is offered at 17/2 (8.50), in theory an excellent result for the hosts.

The problem of course being for Ernesto Valverde's men, that their opponents have lavished hundreds of millions of euros on their forward line which seemingly has paid dividends; of the 32 teams in the groups stages of the Champions League only Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Chelsea scored more goals than PSG.

Indeed it is hard to see the Parisians failing to net against a Valencia side which have kept only one clean sheet in their last six matches.

If the general theory is then, that PSG take a while to get going but utimately almost always end up scoring, then the price of 7/4 (2.75) for their first goal to come on or after 40 minutes looks extremely tempting.

This bet has paid out in five of PSG's last seven league games and looks to be a great option for tonight's match.

For a value bet try backing Zlatan Ibrahimovich to be PSG's first goal scorer at 29/10 (3.90).This appears to be a good bet for smaller stakes and promises bigger returns, with the imposing Swedish striker boasting seven goals in his last eight league games.
