Sunderland - QPR Betting Preview: Expect late goals at the Stadium of Light

Harry Redknapp leads the visitors for the first time but Adam Bate sees the trend of second-half goals continuing and has a 13/2 first goalscorer pick
Harry Redknapp takes his place in the QPR dugout for the first time when his new side travel to Sunderland on Tuesday evening.

The Hoops are still looking for their first Premier League win of the campaign and may feel this represents a good opportunity against a Sunderland side struggling for form themselves.

QPR are 23/10 (3.30) underdogs with Bet365 to pick up three points and give their supporters some hope of Premier League survival.

Black Cats fans were hoping for rather more than that this season but it has been a turgid time so far, culminating in a 4-2 home defeat to West Brom in the lunchtime kick-off on Saturday.

There were even reports that manager Martin O’Neill had offered his resignation.

Those were firmly denied and in fairness there have been positives in the last two games. Sunderland have at least shown some potency in front of goal and that could be enough to see off QPR. Sunderland are 5/4 (2.25) with Bet365 to win this game. The draw is available at 9/4 (3.25).

In the goalscorer markets, Steven Fletcher is the logical favourite to score first and pick up his seventh league goal of the season. He is available at 7/2 (4.50) to open the scoring.

Djibril Cisse is set to lead the line for the visitors against his former club and is 15/2 (8.50) to net the opener.

But the value bet is to back Stephane Sessegnon to score the first goal at 13/2 (7.50) with Bet365.

That is a significantly better price than his strike partner Fletcher, but Sessegnon has shown signs of getting back to his best in recent games and has notched in the last two.

Indeed, both these teams saw goals in their games at the weekend and over 2.5 goals is available at 21/20 (2.05) here.

But for the pick of the bets, go with the second-half as the highest-scoring half at that same price of 21/20 (2.05) with Bet365.

On Saturday both sides saw their matches open up after the interval and with tension in the air it would be no surprise if this is another slow burner at the Stadium of Light, as both sides will not want to concede in the early stages.
