The Parisians two-goal hero and goalkeeper believe the victory, which lifts Carlo Ancelotti's side to second in Ligue 1, is crucial to maintaining momentum going forward

Paris Saint-Germain celebrated their climb into the upper echelons of Ligue 1 for the first time this season, after Kevin Gameiro's brace handed PSG a 2-0 win over strugglers Sochaux.

The France international, who to this point had only featured for 74 minutes in all competitions, sealed victory in the first period with his well-taken double.

"I was on the receiving end of several great chances, and putting them in the back of the net was the only thing I could do," the 25-year-old recalled at the post-match press conference.

"The tactical scheme tonight helped me display some of my old Lorient form, and it really helped me as everyone could see. This team will do great things this year."

Goalkeeper Salvatore Sirigu also played a crucial role as he helped keep the Parc des Princes' visitors at bay, in what proved to be a spirited performance from the former Palermo man.

"We weren't fantastic in the second half," Sirigu told Canal. "Fatigue set in, and there are still things to improve, but we must continue remaining quiet and keep working."

"The upcoming games against Porto and Marseille are very important games. Marseille is particularly strong and decisive."

Paris Saint-Germain travel to the Stade Velodrome in October to take on the league leaders, in what could prove to be a crucial match in the race for the Ligue 1 title.
