Javad Nekounam named in Iran squad for Uzbekistan qualifier but Ashkan Dejagah is left out

Team Melli have announced they will face Istanbul giants Besiktas during their Turkish training camp, as well as a revised 19-man squad for the trip
Iran coach Carlos Queiroz has named a 19-man squad which includes Osasuna star Javad Nekounam but not injured Europe-based duo Masoud Shojaei and Ashkan Dejagah for the upcoming training camp in Turkey and June 3 World Cup qualifier away to Uzbekistan.

A 33-man list had been released in midweek to begin the process of preparing visas for the Uzbek trip, however Queiroz has revised that squad, naming 19 players.

Queiroz will add another eight players to the list from AFC Champions League competitors Sepahan, Persepolis and Esteghlal, before revising the squad down to 24 before the training camp begins in Turkey.

Among those in the squad are Nekounam and young Zob Ahan striker Payam Sadeghian, while Dejagah, Shojaei and Belgium-based Reza Ghoochannejhad are absent.

It is understood, Queiroz may add some injured players to the squad ahead of the Uzbekistan trip, effectively not ruling out Shojaei and Dejagah who do appear unlikely for the opening fourth round qualifying fixture.

Iran also have announced the national team will play Istanbul giants Besiktas during their Turkish training camp which commences on May 21 and sees them face Albania in a friendly on May 27.

Team Melli will meet Uzbekistan in Tashkent in their opening final round World Cup qualifier game, before hosting Qatar in Tehran nine days later.
