Live Commentary

  • That's it from me folks, till next time.
  • A valiant effort from the Tigers, but they fall victim to a controversial penalty decision, that saw Soldado strike the only goal of the game from the spot with 10 minutes remaining. Not a vintage Spurs display by any means, but three points is all that matters, and they've snared just that to move within three of league leaders Arsenal. Hull remain in 10th place.
  • 90' + 7'
No time for any more action, Tottenham seal the points.
  • 90' + 6'
Huddlestone goes for the headlines against his former club with a stinging drive...that sails a yard or so above Lloris' post! And that may be that.
  • 90' + 5'
Free kick right on the edge of the area, after a foul by Dawson! Last chance for the visitors, and a good one...
  • 90' + 3'
Spurs slowing the tempo of the game down nicely, keeping the ball calmly and making Hull chase the ball. The visiting fans sing: "One nil to the referee," still clearly bitter about the penalty decision that led to Soldado's opener.
  • 90' + 1'
Five minutes of added time to go.
  • 90'
    Yellow Card Paulinho
  • 90'
Brady takes charge of a dangerous free kick just over 20 yards out, but though powerful, his effort is too central, and Lloris catches with not too much trouble.
  • 89'
Townsend is finally up, and though a bit dazed, he can still make his own way to the Tottenham dugout - though judging from his body language, he wants to get back on the pitch! His hand has been bandaged up quite heavily, but he looks to be ok otherwise. Good signs.
  • 88'
The game has had the stuffing rather knocked out of it since the collision, which will suit Spurs just fine, as they look to close out a tough three points.
  • 87'
    SubstitutionY. Sagbo Nick Proschwitz
  • 87'
An absolute throng of staff is attending to Townsend, effectively blocking the cameras from getting a view of the player. Still, this incident is reminiscent of Robin van Persie's similar misfortune at Loftus Road last season.
  • 85'
Still not clear what the final verdict of damage is on Townsend, but one of the photographers has clearly come off worse for wear, strapped up with a massive bandage to cover a gash.
  • 84'
    SubstitutionLiam Rosenior Aaron Mclean
  • 84'
    SubstitutionGeorge Boyd Robbie Brady
  • 84'
Nasty tumble from Townsend, who goes barrelling over the advertising hoardings into a pit of photographers. Not a nice collision to witness at all, and a stretcher has been called to the scene as the game moves on.
  • 82'
Steve Bruce will be fuming at that decision, but his side better watch out, as they fail to make a corner count, and Townsend scampers with the loose ball down the right. The winger does well to make up the ground, but with bodies aplenty to pick out in the box, he cannot beat the first defender. Poor in the end.
  • 80'
    Penalty Goal Roberto Soldado
No mistake! Soldado strikes yet again from the spot, sending Harper the wrong way with a powerful effort to the left!
  • 79'
Elmohamady is unfortunate to get whistled for a handball, as Vertonghen's cross deflects off his leg and onto his hand. Not intentional in the slightest, but Soldado has a chance to give Spurs the lead...
  • 79'
  • 77'
    Yellow Card David Meyler
  • 77'
Meyler sees yellow for kicking the ball away as a very rare Hull attack breaks down. His cheeky attempt at time wasting does not go unnoticed by the referee.
  • 75'
Real backs to the wall defending from Hull in the last few minutes. Spurs, fuelled by a raucous White Hart Lane crowd, are penning them back with a series of balls into the box, but thus far, the visitors are standing firm.
  • 73'
Boyd booked for upending Lennon, as Spurs have a free kick. However, Hull manager to clear the delivery.
  • 72'
    Yellow Card George Boyd
  • 71'
Spurs cranking up the pressure. The addition of Eriksen has added an extra dimension in the attacking third. There's still a lack of killer instinct up front though, as Soldado looks off the pace.
  • 70'
    SubstitutionAaron Lennon Jermain Defoe
  • 69'
Pretty obvious handball by Boyd on a rare Hull advance into the opposition half. Spurs have generally dealt with the isolated threat from the visitors quite easily.
  • 67'
Lennon goes weaving in and out of traffic on the right, but Figueroa's sublime tackle temporarily rids the danger. Dembele is on the loose ball at the top of the box and has time to pick his spot, but drags his shot wide.
  • 65'
Steve Bruce prowls the touchline and barks orders at his troops, just as McShane's flailing arm catches Soldado in the chops. No malice from the defender, but Soldado will probably be feeling that for a few minutes.
  • 63'
Eriksen with a corner, and Harper comes off his line to get to the ball just ahead of Dawson, who was lurking for a header on the post.
  • 61'
The match just starting to pick up in tempo as the Spurs faithful make themselves heard. Play is becoming more stretched, and we could be on the verge of something here.
  • 60'
    SubstitutionLewis Holtby Christian Eriksen
  • 59'
    Yellow Card Vlad Iulian Chiricheş
  • 59'
Looks like Eriksen will come on for Tottenham. Interesting to see if the promising Dane can unlock a stout opposition backline.
  • 59'
Chiriches bungles a routine long ball, and Sagbo is on hand to nick it off the centre back, who promptly fouls him. Sagbo is down in a heap, and Chiriches takes a yellow card for his troubles.
  • 59'
Soldado backing into McShane on the edge of the box, and tries to turn the defender, who is having none of it. The Spanish forward goes down in a heap, but the referee is not moved by his protests for a penalty and orders a goal kick.
  • 57'
The defender is able to get to his feet, as Hull defend against some more Spurs pressure.
  • 57'
Davies has stayed down and requires some treatment from the physios, after he looked to have tweaked something during that last sequence.
  • 55'
Davies is caught out of position, and Soldado looks to take advantage of the gap. He's in ahead of the defence, and tries to curl it into the bottom corner, but Harper gets down well to get a strong hand on the effort!
  • 53'
Tottenham are realy toiling here in the second half. Having said that, Hull have abandoned any interest in attacking Lloris' goal, it seems. Hardly a game for the purists.
  • 51'
Figueroa stretches excellently to intercept a Walker through pass, as another Spurs attack breaks down. On the next play, Davies gets in fromt of Soldado with some conviction to prevent the striker from having a sight on goal.
  • 49'
Tame start to the second half from a Tottenham point of view. Hull have defended well throughout, and keep two banks of four between the man on the ball and Harper in goal.
  • 47'
Rosenior with a peach of a ball into the box, but the delivery comes too soon for any other Hull player to attempt to get on the end of it.
  • 46'
    SubstitutionSandro Mousa Dembele
  • 46'
One change to report as Dembele replaces Sandro in the home side's midfield.
  • 46'
We're back in action folks. Hull restart the game.
  • It's been a half of frustration for Spurs, who have mustered little more than bit-part chances in front of Harper's goal. Paulinho sliced the best of those openings over the bar from close range, while Walker also forced the Hull keeper into a solid save from a free kick. The home side have some work to do to breach this stubborn defence in the second half. Stay tuned.
  • 45' + 3'
That's the last action of the half.
  • 45' + 2'
PANIC FOR SPURS! Sagbo goes barging towards goal down the left, but his cross is poor. However, Sandro's attempt at a clearance is even worse, bundling the ball right to Boyd, who nearly steadies himself in time to poke home from close range! Lloris is quick off his line though.
  • 45' + 1'
Two minutes of added time to round off the half.
  • 44'
Paulinho concedes a careless free kick that Huddlestone has his eyes on...but the Spurs defence keep their shape and clear the resulting delivery.
  • 41'
Harper shanks a clearance badly off Soldado, and Holtby is on the rebound. McShane tracks him, and the referee signals an infraction by the Tottenham man in the ensuing tussle.
  • 40'
Rosenior, by the way, was booked for fouling Chiriches on that play.
  • 39'
    Yellow Card Liam Rosenior
  • 39'
Chiriches wins a free kick on the edge of the box after weaving in and out of a few Hull bodies. Walker takes charge of the delivery, fires it straight at goal, but Harper is on hand to make a solid stop.
  • 37'
Meyler with quite an excellent challenge in midfield to prevent Lennon from stretching his legs and orchestrating a dangerous Spurs attack.
  • 35'
Nice interplay from Lennon and Holtby down near the byeline but the former is adjudged to have been offside upon receiving the return pass. Correct call there.
  • 34'
The Spurs crowd are really getting behind their team now, but you can feel the frustration creeping in. They are trying to work the ball a little bit too much around the box and need to just get in some more efforts on goal.
  • 32'
WHAT A STRIKE!! Huddlestone almost has the perfect return to his previous stomping grounds with a sublimely-executed volley on the edge of the area. He strikes it unbelievably well, but the shot rises a little too much and flashes over the bar.
  • 31'
Great play from Spurs! The ball is played about exquisitely inside the Hull box but Paulinho's cross takes a deflection which puts it out agonisingly out of Soldado's reach.
  • 30'
Almost an in for Soldado there as he receives the ball at the top of the box and spins his marker well. He gets a couple of lucky breaks, struggling to keep it under control, before McShane puts in a solid tackle.
  • 29'
Things have been fairly even so far, with Hull giving a good account of themselves at White Hart Lane so far today. They look well-drilled and compact in their own half, while not solely focusing on sitting back.
  • 26'
HE HAS TO DO BETTER! Spurs counter from a Hull corner, with Holtby bearing down on goal. The Germany international has options to either side but instead goes for goal, rolling a tame effort into the welcoming hands of Harper.
  • 25'
Claims for a penalty for Hull as McShane goes to ground under pressure from Walker inside the area. The referee looked to have been a bit unsighted there, but it would have been a harsh decision to give.
  • 24'
Huddlestone has had a great start to the game and he dinks a brilliant ball over the top of the Spurs defence for El Mohamady. The Egyptian, however, sees his cross blocked by a white shirt.
  • 22'
A scramble ensues once the ball is sent into the area but Hull are unable to make anything of it. Spurs eventually counter through Townsend and he feeds Soldado to his right. The Spaniard breaks into the box but Huddleston has chased all the way back to block his cross from getting in.
  • 21'
Good play from Figueroa there, shielding the ball from Holtby and drawing a free kick which Hull can put into the box...
  • 19'
GOOD SAVE!! Sagbo gets in behind the Spurs defence for the first time today and tries to pick out the far corner from the right side of the box. He strikes the ball well but Lloris gets a strong hand to it to deflect the danger away.
  • 18'
Hull now have a chance to put the ball in the box with a free kick delivery from deep and Huddlestone swings it in well. However, he only finds a white shirt and Holtby then hooks away the danger.
  • 17'
    Yellow Card Sandro
  • 16'
Good effort! Townsend picks up the ball in his own half and carries it forward dangerously. He has a give-and-go with Paulinho before attempting to bend a shot into the far corner. Harper does well to get down to his left and parry it aside.
  • 14'
Adventurous from Vertonghen! Playing at left-back today, he stretches his legs for the first time this afternoon. He beats a couple of men but Huddlestone proves to be one obstacle too many.
  • 13'
JUST OVER!! The resultant free kick is swung in brilliantly and Paulinho manages to connect with it on the volley from just over six yards out. He has to get his leg up high, though, and therefore fails to keep his effort down and on target.
  • 12'
McShane gives away a rather needless free kick as he clumsily goes through the back of Holtby. He was facing back towards his own goal and did not look to be going anywhere there.
  • 10'
Hull are getting plenty of men back behind the ball but they need to be quicker to close Spurs when they move forward. At the moment the hosts are finding it far too easy to force them back towards their own goal.
  • 8'
It has been a rather tepid start to proceedings here, with neither side yet to take full control of the game. Spurs are enjoying their share of possession but as of yet they have been unable to create anything to really worry Harper.
  • 6'
STAT: Tottenham are the Premier League side with the most clean sheets so far this season, a total of five already.
  • 4'
Good block from Davies! His initial clearance was poor and the looping ball was struck on the volley by Lennon from just outside the area. The centre-back managed to re-position himself in the way of the effort and deflect it behind for a corner.
  • 2'
Tottenham are wearing their traditional white shirts and navy shorts, while Hull perform in their alternate blue kit with red socks. Interesting.
  • 1'
We are underway at White Hart Lane!
  • Aluko is out for the visitors, while Brady is only fit enough for a spot among the substitutes. Huddlestone, meanwhile, starts on his return to White Hart Lane. I'm sure he will be keen to make a real impression this afternoon.
  • Holtby starts in behind Soldado this afternoon, with Lennon operating from the left. This means Sigurdsson and Eriksen have to settle for places on the bench.
  • Hull bench: Proschwitz, Quinn, McLean, Koren, Jakupovic, Gedo, Brady.
  • Hull (4-1-4-1): Harper; Rosenior, Bruce, Davies, Figueroa; El Mohamady, Huddlestone, McShane, Meyler, Boyd; Sagbo.
  • Tottenham bench: Friedel, Naughton, Dembele, Eriksen, Sigurdsson, Lamela, Defoe.
  • Tottenham bench: Friedel, Naughton, Dembele, Eriksen, Sigurdsson, Lamela, Defoe.
  • Tottenham (4-2-3-1): Lloris; Walker, Chiriches, Dawson, Vertonghen; Sandro, Paulinho; Townsend, Holtby, Lennon; Soldado.
  • Hello and welcome to this afternoon's LIVE commentary on the Premier League meeting between Tottenham Hotspur and Hull City.
