Terengganu and Kelantan cancel out each other in draw

Both teams shared the spoils in a deserved result as the hosts recovered from a goal down to force a stalemate

The visitors made a bright start, eager to atone for their midweek defeat by Johor Darul Takzim and could have gone ahead within five minutes. Unsurprisingly, Wan Zahararulnizam was the creator down the left-hand side, easily going past Nordin Alias before his low cross found Mohammad Ghaddar, whose snap shot was dealt with comfortably by Sharbinee Allawee.

It was no surprise that Kelantan then took the lead on 15 minutes. Mohamed Shawky started the move, pouncing to disrupt Terengannu's midfield and launching the ball forward to Ghaddar, before taking the return pass and firing in a neat finish.

Their lead was almost doubled four minutes later by new signing Brendan Gan. Again, Shawky was involved, this time dispossessing Zairo Anuar, allowing Gan a run into the area. His effort had the required pace but went narrowly wide.

Not long after, Ghaddar tried his luck from distance but Sharbinee saved well.

Against the run of play, an equaliser came on 36 minutes and it was one that Khairul Fahmi will not want to see replays of. Zairo's free-kick from 25 yards was struck well, but the goalkeeper should still have gotten across in time to make the save.

The home side were desperately unlucky not to be ahead at the break after an incorrect offside call. It was Nor Farhan had deftly turned away from both Obinna Nwaneri and Fitree Omar before sliding a through ball to Abdul Manaf Mamat, but the linesman's flag denied him.

A sterling effort from distance by Ismail Faruqi was then saved by Fahmi, somewhat atoning for his previous error.

A minute into the second half and the home side threatened again through a set piece, as the dangerous Nor Farhan skied his effort from six yards out. Five minutes later, Ghaddar headed Badhri Radzi's cross against the bar from close range.

The game followed a frenetic pace throughout the second half, often with Terengannu looking dangerous breaking forward with pace and forcing Steve Darby's street-wise team into a number of fouls.

On the hour mark, Kelantan were aggrieved by a clumsy tackle from Nordin on Gan in the box, but the referee was unmoved.

Both teams brought on attacking reinforcements in the form of Francis Forkey Doe and Mamadou Barry, but clear chances were hard to come by.

The majority of the game was being played out in a fierce midfield battle, with little calmness when it came to the final ball. While Terengannu had the most of possession, Kelantan at times countered well, although on two of these occasions, the end product by Amar Rohidan and Nik Shahrul was found lacking.

Barry did fashion a chance for the Turtles on 78 minutes as he cut inside past Nik Shahrul, but his low strike was straight at Fahmi.

The same player should have snatched victory for his team on 88 minutes. Picked out by Ismail 10 yards out, Barry's free header went straight Fahmi, leaving both teams with a deserved point each.
