Live Commentary

  • That's the end of the match! Emphatic win for the Syrians. The goals came late but the scoreline pretty much summed up the dominance of Syria who had Singapore pressed most of the game and denied them even a clear shot on goal.

GOAL for Syria! A cornerkick is headed into the goal with ease. It looks like it was Abdul Fattah Al Agha who got the head to the ball with no one marking the forward

Well that should settle it. Syria are 2-0 now. That goal was coming for a long time and there's only so much Hassan and the Singapore defence could have done

15 minutes left on the clock. Singapore have slowly inched their way forward with the Syrians showing signs of exhaustion

Hassan again comes to Singapore's rescue keeping the ball out of the net with a fine save. Fantastic form he's in. Corner number 9 for Syria, Singapore have not had any so far. But that goes to waste as a bullet header is well held by Hassan

Syria pick up where they left off in the first half. Keeping Singapore pressed but still failing to find a way through to the final third

    Second-half gets underway
  • End of the first half. The only goal so far came from  Sanharib Malki. A quick break down the right flank and the ball was pulled back from the byline to the near post and Sanharib dashed ahead of the Singapore defence to get a low first-time effort to the far corner of the goal. The Syrians are still chasing qualification though Singapore have simmered hopes with coach Bernd Stange preferring to make progress with team development.

Two minutes of added time to be played
  • 44'
We approach the half-time break with the score still 1-0 to Syria. It looked like the floodgates were going to open but Singapore's stubborn defence has held the Syrians back who seem to be very stifled by Singapore's movement and passing
  • 40'
Syria have enjoyed the larger share of possession and that would still be an understatement. They have the Lions pressed in their own half and have been taking their time finding a way through

The starting line-up for Singapore today:Hassan Sunny (Gk); Shakir Hamzah; Afiq Yunos; Raihan Rahman; Hafiz Sujad; Isa Halim; Shahdan Sulaiman; Shahfiq Ghani; Gabriel Quak; Khairul Amri; Shahril Ishak (C)
  • 34'
The statistics so far for the curious, Syria have had 6 shots on goal while Singapore have had just one. The Syrians have been coming at Singapore hard for most of the game. But a combination of brave defending and splendid saves from Hassan Sunny has kept the scoreline down
