His distribution was very wayward and slowed the game right down, occasionally putting his side under pressure. Failed to hold Van Wolfswinkel's shot, leading to Norwich's second and nervy finale.
As usual added real value to Saints' attack with his runs up the right flank - one of which led to the passage before the opening goal. Solid defensively, too.
Had a few dodgy moments and made a few minor errors at the back that might have cost his side against better opponents. His sloppy back-pass led to Elmander's goal and gave Saints a late scare.
Not his usual dominant self as communication sometimes broke down between him and his centre-back partner, but did nothing major wrong. Looked more confident after the break, but limped off right at the end.
Unable to make any impact on the first half going forward but had little to do defensively. Improved after the break but still lacked final product.
Had a good game. Demanded the ball from his defence to play searching balls forward, saw a good effort saved by Ruddy and tackled back well too.
Started the goal move with a nice ball in to Rodriguez but scuffed a decent half chance of his own wide of the post. Was a bit sluggish on the ball at times but set-up Gallagher's late goal which finally killed the game.
Found space and saw a decent chance blocked in the build-up to his side's opener but was largely ineffective otherwise. Withdrawn from the game early in the second half.

Opened the scoring early on with a fabulous run and finish, but could have drove the team forward more often with little to do defensively.
Worked hard going forward and backwards all game long. Was rewarded for his tireless work with a fairly simple late goal, which he took well. Continuously threatened in behind and slammed a strike off the crossbar.
Beaten by smart finishes from Schneiderlin and Lambert, and was unfortunate to see a good save fall to a Saints shirt for their third. Saved well form Ward-Prowse after the break.
Could have been more adventurous and done more on the front foot with both Shaw and Lallana having off days. Let Rodriguez have too much space as he drifted wide when Lambert came on.
Made a good block to deny Lallana in the build up to the Saints opener. Didn't do anything major wrong but Norwich's defence collectively weren't good enough.
Was pinned back by the attacking display from Clyne, but still gave the Saints full-back too much space.
Used his strength to make up for what he lacked in pace against the dangerous Rodriguez, but let him in behind too often. Got turned inside-out by Lambert for his goal.
Didn't create much but saw little of the ball as Saints dominated possession. Kept working hard and was in the right place at the right time to score Norwich's second.
Lost Schneiderlin for Saints opener as the Frenchman broke away from midfield. After that did okay to keep the ball when he got it.
Looked to pick up an injury early in the game but battled on and worked hard, barking out orders from midfield. Didn't use the ball that well, though, and came off when Saints got their second.
Wasteful with what little of the ball he saw, with his only contribution a silly booking for a deliberate handball. Withdrawn after Southampton went 2-0 up.
Helped his side get a grip on the game after Saints' bright start. Tackled well and used his strength to disrupt the likes of Ramirez and Lallana. Was unable to do the same after the break as Saints stepped up.
Squandered his side's only opening of the first half and was duly replaced after Saints' second.
Came off the bench to make a real difference when Saints were lacking cutting edge. Replaced the subdued Lallana and scored with his first intervention - a neat finish after some nice footwork. Helped keep the ball in the attacking third, set-up Rodriguez's goal and had another late chance saved well.
Came on as part of the treble change soon after Southampton made it 2-0 but did not offer too much
R. van Wolfswinkel
Came on as Hughton looked for a better focal point up top. His shot, which Boruc failed to hold, led to Snodgrass' goal.
Brought on to add more beef to Norwich's attack after they fell 2-0 down and did so as he pulled a goal back by reading Fonte's poor pass.
