A very memorable win for Singapore and hopefully this will be the sign of things to come. A first competitive win in almost 10 months and that should do wonders for morale. Good night to our fans from @bhasKunju! Look out for post-match coverage starting with our match report coming right up!
Aldouni tested Hassan Sunny late on but Singapore hold on for a very important win! 2-1 and what a turnaround for the Lions. All credit to Bernd Stange and his new Singapore side who did everything they had been trying to do in the past matches. They controlled the game and looked dangerous going forward.
Goal Raja Rafe
GOALLL! Syria pull one back! Raja Rafe evades HAriss and fires one into the bottom of the goal. Lifeline for Syria?? Singapore took their mind off for a few seconds and were rightly punished!
Credit where credit is due. It's been an excellent game from the Singapore side. They stuck to their positions and Syria have looked lost since failing to establish themselves in the game early on. Body language says it all, one side full of confidence and another looking defeated
Yellow Card Shaiful Esah
GOALLLL!!! 2-0 to Singapore!! Gabriel Quak makes it two moments after coming on! He has scored his first international goal with his second touch of the game! Hariss played Quak through and he did well to spring the offside trap and get into the box and finish brilliantly! What a goal!
Assist Hariss Harun
Goal Gabriel Quak
1-0 and up the home side don't look like they're ready to sit back and defend yet. What a statement it'll be if the result sticks.
Singapore have looked a lot more threatening since Hafiz pushed up to left wing with Shaiful Esah taking the left back role. A lot more movement and creativity going forward with the left-footed player linking up with Shahril and Amri. Shahdan unfortunately has looked far off from making a good impression.
Yellow Card Louy Chanko
Hafiz Sujad had the chance to get on the scoresheet but he decides to rush into the box instead of taking his chance! Confident play going forward from Singapore, very well done so far.
Abdul Fattah Al Agha
Singapore have been playing with a lot of confidence since the goal and Syria have lost their cool. But good play from the home side holding Syria out
Mahmoud Al Mawas
Assist Hafiz Sujad
Goal Khairul Amri
GOALLLL!! Singapore take the lead!! Hafiz Sujad capitalises on the Syrian defensive slip-up to get to the byline and pick out an unmarked Khairul Amri at the far post. He took his shot well and it's 1-0 to Singapore!
Sloppy so far and boy wonder Adam is coming off for Shahdan. Shahdan's had a very disappointing international career and has not even been in strong contention to make the Singapore squad under Stange. A lot for him to prove tonight.
Shahril Ishak with a spectacular bicycle kick effort from Amri's cross but completely mistimes it. Good pressure from the home side though. They look confident venturing forward.
CHANCE! Mahmoud Almawas with a shot across goal and Aldouni slides in at the far post but fails to make contact! Syria are pushing hard from the start
We're back for the second-half! Both teams looking all out to get the three points tonight. Of course no goals yet.
Halftime! Goalless and two very frustrated sides go in at the break hoping to make the better of the second half. Syria had more chances but Singapore had their moments too. It's been an event contest overall and the home side are still in the hunt for their first competitive goal under Bernd Stange.
CHANCE! Omar Kharbin hits the side netting as well! Quick counter from Syria after sustained pressure from Singapore and the Syrian ends the move with a disappointing finish. Both sides are pretty eventually matched now.
Yellow Card Z. Arifin
CHANCE! Syria getting closer now, that shot cannoning off the crossbar with Hassan beaten! Still goalless here at Jalan Besar Stadium however
Yellow Card Hariss Harun
Yellow Card Hamdi Al Masri
The game has slowed down again with both sets of players getting bogged down with physical challenges. The Syria coach meanwhile has been made to don a blue big over his white shirt, to set his apart from his players who are all in white as well. Shame, he looked like he had spent some time picking that shirt out for tonight.
CHANCE! What a stop from Hassan Sunny! Aldouni was sent free after being played onside by Madhu but the Singapore custodian raced out in time to stop that effort. It was well-timed and a fantastic stop. That looked destined for the back of the net. It had been very quiet in the past few minutes until that slip-up.
CHANCE! End to end stuff now! Hariss with a brilliant lob over the Syrian defence to set Shahril free but the Syrian keeper gets his head to the ball in time. Then Ahmad Aldouni and Nadim Sabag come close. Aldouni pouncing on Madhu's poor clearance to test Hassan and the Nadim heading into the sidenetting from the resulting corner. It could be anyone's game at this rate. Good open match so far.
CHANCE! Shahril hits the side netting! Deep free-kick finds Safuwan who heads across goal and the ball bounces into the Singapore captain's path but his header at the far post finds the side netting instead! That should have been a goal!
Safuwan with a very good interception to stop the Syrian counter. To be fair the Lions have been holding out well and are sticking to the new passing philosophy of Stange. Much more confident but are still not finding a way forward.
Singapore with a very positive start to the game. Much less pressure given that Stange has scaled expectations back with his comments. Early free-kick into the box is headed straight to the Syrian keeper. No pressure.
Syria of course are starting in all-white while Singapore play in red. All eyes on Adam Swandi who is making his first senior start for Singapore. A lot of expectations on those young shoulders.
