The LionsXII captain grabbed his sixth goal in the competition as Sufian Anuar and Hariss Harun join him on the scoresheet
The LionsXll moved to joint-second in the table with Terengganu in the Malaysia Super League after beating Felda United 3-1 at the Jalan Besar Stadium.
Despite missing out with star defenders Safuwan Baharudin and Juma'at Jantan, the Lions didn’t seem troubled as they got the lead six minutes into the game.
Midfielder Shadan Sulaiman ‘s corner-kick caused a scramble in the box and just when the ball seemed to go out of play, Baihakki Khaizan headed the ball back to the on-coming Harris Harun who made no mistake from two-yards out to give the team the lead.
After the goal, the Lions started to dominate possession but Felda stunned the home crowd with a Raimi Nor free-kick, after Ahmad Fakri got hacked down by Shakir Hamzah outside the box.
After the equalizing goal, Felda seemed to get hold of the momentum and started to create more chances, with Raimi and striker Cire Dia both having chances to grab the lead but it was all wasted.
The Lions then switched to a more attacking 4-4-2 after Agu Casmir replaced the injured Baihakki at half time and it paid off immediately with Sufian Anuar directing Shandan’s weak shot in to make it 2-1 in the 50th minute.
But barely featuring for more than fifteen minutes, Agu was brought down due to a groin injury with Khairul Nizam replacing him.
Isa Halim then earned LionsXll a penalty in the 66th minute, as Lot Hassan who came on not long before brought him down in the area and captain Shahril Ishak slotted in home coolly to give the team a two-goal lead.
To add on to Felda’s misery, they had to play the match with 10 men for the last ten minutes as substitute Farderin Kadir was stretchered-off after a hard tackle by Isa and was deemed unable to continue and Felda had already used up all their substitutes.
Taking advantage of having an extra player, the Lions surged forward in an attempt to find a fourth goal that will surely kill off the match and they had another penalty in the 85th minute as Khairul was brought down by Felda’s keeper Hamsani Ahmad in the box.
Shahril stepped up to take the penalty again but had his shot saved well by Hamsani. The LionsXII captain then blasted the rebounding ball over despite looking odds on to score.
After their fourth consecutive win in all competitions, LionsXll will host NS Betaria in the Malaysia FA Cup this Saturday, while Felda United will take on PKNS FC next Friday in a Malaysia Super League match.
