Orlando Pirates were aiming for their third successive win after beating Platinum Stars and University of Pretoria earlier this weekGolden Arrows had the first shot on target in the game as midfielder Ntlantla Zothwane's volley inside the box went straight at Bucs keeper Senzo Meyiwa who gathered it in the eighth minute, after a nice cross from the right by Arrows striker Bonginkosi Ntuli.
Pirates defender Happy Jele broke the deadlock in the 12th minute when he bounced onto a loose ball inside the box to make it 1-0, after Arrows keeper Ryan Harrison failed to hold on to a header from Bucs captain Lucky Lekgwathi.
Arrows responded almost immediately with a goal from captain Gift Sithole, who was unmarked in the box and he made it 1-1 with a powerful header from a corner kick in the 14th minute.
The hosts made it 2-1 in the 25th minute when in-form Oupa Manyisa found himself free inside the box and he finished off a beautiful low cross from Happy Jele. It was Manyisa's 3rd league goal this season.
Abafana Besithende striker Ntuli ballooned the ball over the cross bar, failing to punish the Pirates defence in injury time, after a lack of communication between Pirates captain Lekgwathi and his fellow defenders.
Pirates had a good start to the second half as striker Kermit Erasmus hit a snap shot from just outside the box in the 48th minute, but his powerful shot was parried away for a corner kick by Arrows keeper Harrison.
Three minutes later Meyiwa pulled off a brilliant save to deny Arrows captain Sithole, who nearly scored again from a corner kick. Arrows looked dangerous from set-pieces throughout the match.
The home side continued to pile on the pressure on the Abafana Besithende defence. Thandani Ntshumayelo's powerful shot in the 66th minute from outside the area, went straight at Arrows keeper Harrison who gathered it.
Bucs left-back Thabo Matlaba unleashed a powerful strike with his left foot from 40 metres away two minutes later, but the shot was once again parried away for a corner kick by Harrison.
Abafana Besithende keeper Harrison was once again kept busy in the 78th minute, as he pushed away a shot from Bucs winger Sifiso Myeni from close range inside the box.
In injury time, Bucs substitute Lennox Bacela's close range shot was brilliantly saved by Arrows keeper Harrison with his leg, denying Pirates their 3rd goal of the match.
A minute later Manyisa put the icing on the cake as he scored a hard and low shot just inside the box, after the Arrows defence was caught sleeping in injury time. This was the midfielders fourth league goal of the season.
