Orlando Pirates ended a three-game winless streak with a victory away to Mamelodi Sundowns in midweek, and with that in mind, Free State Stars will be next on their hit-list

Orlando Pirates will want to pick up where they left off earlier this week when the Soweto outfit welcome Free State Stars to the Orlando Stadium on Saturday.

The Buccaneers edged Mamelodi Sundowns 1-0 earlier this week, as they got their PSL campaign back on track following a dismal month in February.

Newly-signed striker Lehlohonolo Majoro looks set to make his debut for his new team, after swapping Kaizer Chiefs for the Sea Robbers at the beginning of the week.

The Soweto giants have had a mixed bag of results at home so far this season, with five wins and four losses from their nine matches at the iconic Orlando Stadium.

Interim coach Eric Tinkler has been confirmed as the man that will be in charge on Saturday, as new boss Vladimir 'VV' Vermezovic awaits his work permit.

Pirates make a welcome return to their home ground, having last played there on February 8, when they were defeated by Sundowns.

Pirates are currently sixth in the league standings, but still have three games in hand over fierce rivals Kaizer Chiefs, who still sit pretty at the top of the log.

A win would see the Sea Robbers climb a point above AmaZulu, who are not in action this weekend.

Stars, meanwhile, will look to open a six point gap over basement side Golden Arrows, currently leading the KwaZulu-Natal outfit by three points with a game in hand.

Stars continue to struggle in the PSL and have been poor away from home, managing a hapless four points from eight away trips.

Ea Lla Koto broke a seven-game winless streak in their last league outing when they defeated Golden Arrows 2-1 at home.

  • The two teams will meet for the first time this season.
  • Pirates have scored 12 goals at home this season.
  • Stars have conceded 14 goals on the road.
  • In head-to-head stats, Stars and Pirates have met in 47 league matches since 1986.
  • The Buccaneers have 21 wins compared to just six for Stars, while no less than 20 matches have been drawn.
