Norwich - Reading Preview: Canaries seek only second win of 2013 against Premier League's bottom club

Chris Hughton's side will have few better opportunities to take three points than at home to the Royals, although Nigel Adkins will be seeking his first win since being appointed

Norwich goalkeeper John Ruddy (thigh) is nearing a return from long-term injury, but Mark Bunn is set to continue in goal.

Central midfielder Bradley Johnson (leg) is a doubt but could continue alongside Alex Tettey or Jonny Howson, but long-term midfield casualty Andrew Surman (knee) is unavailable.

Playmaker Wes Hoolahan and winger Anthony Pilkington will be hoping to feature following returns to match fitness, while Kei Kamara will be pushing Grant Holt for a starting berth.

Reading goalkeeper Alex McCarthy had an excellent game against Liverpool on Saturday and could keep his place with Adam Federici (ankle) doubtful.

Hope Akpan (ankle) and winger Jimmy Kebe (groin) are doubtful, so Jem Karacan and Danny Guthrie could continue in the centre of the park while Garath McCleary and Hal Robson-Kanu compete for a position on the right flank.

Noel Hunt started up front alongside Pavel Pogrebnyak in place of supersub Adam Le Fondre on Saturday, but each are likely to feature at some point.

  DID YOU KNOW?

  • Norwich have won only once in the Premier League since Christmas, and are now just four points clear of the relegation zone with five games remaining.
  • The Canaries have drawn seven of their last 12 games and five of their last six home matches in the Premier League.
  • The two sides drew 0-0 when they met in November at the Madejski Stadium.
  • Norwich’s five-goal joint-top scorer Grant Holt scored in both games against Reading in the 2010-11 Championship season, but was sent off in the match at the Madejski Stadium.
  • Reading are bottom of the table and ten points from safety, but Saturday’s 0-0 draw at home to Liverpool ended a run of eight consecutive defeats in new manager Nigel Adkins’ third game in charge.
  • The Royals conceded the most goals (63) and recording the worst goal difference (-27) of any Premier League side so far this season.
  • The Royals have lost 10 of their last 11 away matches in the Premier League, having been losing at both half time and full time in their last three league away games. Only Stoke (9) have scored fewer away from home than Reading (13).
