The Scot left the Canaries in the summer after helping them secure Premier League safety following back-to-back promotions but is unlikely to get a warm welcome

Michael Turner could be in contention for the hosts after missing the last few matches with a shoulder injury sustained in the win over Manchester United, otherwise Ryan Bennett will fight it out with Russell Martin to partner Sebastien Bassong at the heart of the defence.

Mark Bunn will continue to deputise for John Ruddy in the Norwich goal, with the England international ruled out until January due to a thigh injury.

Both sides are expected to field strong line-ups, meaning Paul Lambert may choose to stick with the side that drew 0-0 against Stoke on Saturday - with Darren Bent again restricted to a place on the bench.

This game will probably come too soon for Villa's Charles N'Zogbia (knee), Ron Vlaar (calf) and Joe Bennett (knee), who could all be in contention for Saturday's league game at Liverpool.

  DID YOU KNOW?
  • This game marks Paul Lambert's first return to Carrow Road since leaving Norwich for Aston Villa in acrimonious circumstances last summer, with the Scot still in legal dispute with his former employers.
  • Chris Hughton (pictured right) can also expect an interesting welcome from opposition fans, having formerly been in charge of Villa's bitter rivals Birmingham City.
  • Norwich have been drawn at home in all three of their games in the Capital One Cup so far, while Villa have picked up difficult away wins at Swindon and Manchester City in their previous two ties.
  • The Canaries are now unbeaten in 10 games, while only the two Manchester clubs have defeated Villa in their last nine.
  • The away team has failed to win any of the last eight encounters between these two sides.
  • Aston Villa have won the Capital One Cup on five occasions, including in 1975 when they beat Norwich 1-0 in the final.
  • Norwich have taken home the trophy twice - their only major silverware to date.
