Alan Pardew may ring the changes after his side’s 1-0 win over Metalist Kharkiv in the Europa League. Mathieu Debuchy, Steven Taylor and Davide Santon missed the win in the Ukraine but could be recalled for the visit of Southampton.

First-choice goalkeeper Tim Krul has been sidelined for up to five weeks after damaging his ankle during Thursday's win, with Rob Elliot likely to deputise.

Cheikh Tiote (illness) was also out but he should be fit in time for Sunday. Yoan Gouffran (shin) could also be available after his injury turned out to be less severe than first thought.

Mauricio Pochettino could be tempted to stick with the same team that beat Manchester City, however, both Luke Shaw and Gaston Ramirez could return from respective knocks that kept them out of the clash with the reigning champions, boosting the Argentine's options.

Jose Fonte and Guly do Prado (both knee) are also set to recover in time, with January signing Vegard Forren still waiting for a chance to impress. Adam Lallana could also be in the mix for a start after finding himself on the bench against City.

  DID YOU KNOW?
  • Newcastle have won just once at home in 2013, however, that one victory came against Chelsea last time out at St James’ Park.

  • In their 13 games at home this season the Magpies have drawn just once, back in September against Aston Villa.

  • Since the departure of Demba Ba (pictured right) in early January, the north-east outfit have managed to score just eight goals in all competitions.

  • Southampton have not won in their last nine games played on Tyneside. Their last victory at St James' Park came in March 1997.

  • The Saints have won just twice on the road in the Premier League this term, the last of which came against Villa last month.
