Singapore's Group A opponents in the AFF Suzuki Cup, Indonesia, sank a spirited Timor Leste side 1-0 through a Bambang Pamungkas goal on Wednesday evening at the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium.

With the match being played at their massive Gelora Bung Karno Stadium, Indonesia were always likely to be the side to pose the bigger threat in the first-half.

Hitman Bambang Pamungkas curled a freekick over on 17 minutes before producing a great turn-and-shot on the edge of the box that Timor Leste keeper Emerson could only parry.

Meanwhile Vendry Mofu also headed wide from an Ellie Aiboy corner.

Despite four corners for the hosts, they were unable to capitalize.

As for the visitors, it was Brazilian-born forward Leandro who led the line well with his slick dribbling and running although he did not get much support from his midfielders.

Ribeiro shot over on 20 minutes while captain Leandro was tripped by Oktovianus Maniani on 34 minutes but referee Sukhbir Singh waved away his appeals.

In the second half, it was not surprising that the Indonesians dominated large parts of the game.

Bambang once again got two early opportunities right after the restart, however, he placed straight to Emerson for the first and then headed just wide of the post from a right-wing cross.

A great counter-attack on 56 minutes led by Aiboy saw Oktovianus Maniani produce a well-placed cross to Mofu, however the latter's header clipped the bar and went over.

10 minutes later, the Indonesians finally broke the deadlock.

A through ball slipped through by Irfan Bacdhim saw substitute Jhon Van Beukering cross low to the far post for Bambang to gleefully tap home from close range.

The goal was enough to seal the game for the Indonesians despite them missing a few opportunities later on.

In the end, it was victory for the Indonesians although much work still needs to be done for the Suzuki Cup, judging on this display.
