Hull City Tigers - Norwich Preview: Record-signing Huddlestone set for home debut

Steve Bruce's men lost their opening game of the season away to Chelsea, but will fancy their chances on home soil against a Canaries outfit that mustered a draw against Everton

Tom Huddlestone and Jake Livermore could be handed their first starts for Hull City Tigers as they host Norwich City at the KC Stadium on Saturday.

Steve Bruce will manage his charges on home soil in the top-flight for the first time since they won promotion from the Championship in May.

The former Sunderland boss saw his side lose 2-0 to Jose Mourinho's Chelsea on Sunday, but he will take heart from a spirited performance in the second half.

Huddlestone and Livermore both joined from Tottenham on August 14, and made their bows off the substitutes' bench at Stamford Bridge.

And Bruce admitted he is considering making changes to his starting line-up for the fixture with Chris Hughton's team.

"We'll have a look," he told the club's official website. "I don't think it's any secret that the two lads from Tottenham came on and made a difference to us, so they both come into the reckoning.

"But I haven't finalised my XI yet. We've got a couple of days to go and a lot can happen in that time, so I'm not going to reveal my hand just yet."

Hull remain without Stephen Quinn who picked up a hamstring injury in a pre-season friendly with Eintracht Braunschweig, while defender Abdoulaye Faye is sidelined with a calf problem.

Norwich started their campaign with a 2-2 draw at Carrow Road against Everton, with Ricky van Wolfswinkel grabbing a debut goal to secure a share of the spoils.

Manager Hughton could opt to partner Van Wolfswinkel with new signing Johan Elmander, if the Swede receives international clearance on Friday.

Norwich were dealt a blow ahead of the game with the news winger Elliott Bennett is ruled out with a knee injury. The 24-year-old completed 90 minutes against Everton on Saturday, but now faces an extended spell on the sidelines.

"We have some bad news on Elliott Bennett," Hughton said in a pre-match press conference.
"He has a problem with his knee that will keep him out for a few months."

Bennett added on Twitter: "Will use this time to improve, I will come back stronger, faster and better as a player and a person."

Anthony Pilkington (knee) and Gary Hooper (shin) will also miss out, but Sebastien Bassong and Robert Snodgrass are back in contention after missing last weekend’s draw with Everton.

History suggests the fixture will be a close affair, with 11 league victories apiece in the head-to-head to record. Norwich's last success in Hull came in April 2007, in a 2-1 victory.
