Home United drop precious points in the title chase as they were held to a draw by a determined Hougang United at the Bishan stadium
The Cheetahs started the game with offense on their mind and only three minutes in, Ante Barac tried his luck from 30 yards out, forcing a save from Home United custodian Nazri Sabri.
The game soon began to show signs of trouble as tackles began flying in from both sides with the first yellow card shown to the visitors in the 13th minute of the game.
Mamadou Diallo had reacted badly to a tackle by Shotaro Ihata and the former was booked soon after.
The home side failed to capitalise on Stanislav Vidakovic's mis-cued clearance two minutes before the half hour mark as Ihata lost his balance and his chance to make an attempt on goal.
The first half ended with both teams seeing their share of attempts on goal but none troubled the goalkeeper.
Ten minutes before halftime, Azhar Sairudin, attempted an audacious try from forty yards, but his efforts would land on the roof of the net.
Two minutes later, it was the home side that squandered their chances in front of goal as Ihata's shot could only reach the side-netting.
Hougang were presented a chance to break the deadlock with just over ten minutes left to the end of regulation time, but Jordan Webb headed his effort straight to the goalkeeper.
The deadlock was finally broken in the 80th minute as Mendy slammed the ball past beyond Fadhil Salim.
The lead would last for only five minutes as a determined Diallo went on a solo run before cooly slotting the ball into the net to tie the game for the night and earn a precious point for the Cheetahs.
