The hosts completed the double over their Malaysian opponents as captain Jozef Kaplan struck again to lead the way
The S.League took a break in June for the StarHub League Cup, but both Geylang International and Harimau Muda were ready to go for Round 15 on Wednesday night.
Geylang have slid down the league table were second-last before kick-off; on the other hand, Harimau Muda’s young guns had settled in the top half of the table.
The Eagles welcomed back key players, with Yasir Hanapi and Fabian Kwok back in the starting line up after missing the last League Cup match due to suspensions.
The first chance of the night came within 10 minutes of kick-off as Jozef Kaplan met a wonderful cross from the left but sent his header straight into Harimau Muda custodian Ramdhan Hamid.
Shortly after, a messy fumble in the Eagles’ penalty box provided a chance for the Young Ttigers to put themselves ahead, but defender Khayrulhayat Jumat was quick to clear the ball away.
Harimau Muda then went on the prowl once more, when Faizat Ghazli blasted his half-volley over the crossbar.
The Malaysian side were enjoying a vibrant start as they pressed the Eagles in their own half, but Geylang’s defensive line was solid as the first half concluded at 0-0.
During the half-time break, the spectators at Bedok Stadium were treated to a percussion show performed by a group of students from ITE College East.
The second half ensued shortly after and Eagles coach Vedhamuthu Kanan made his first substitution of the night, replacing Safwan Ramlan with his trusty super substitute, Andrew Tan.
However, tt was not until the 69th minute of the game when Geylang captain Kaplan stepped up for his side. The Slovakian connected with a cross from the right flank and fired home the first goal of the night, notching his eight of the season.
The fueled Geylang side continued pushing forward and began dominating the game. On the other hand, Harimau Muda seemed to have lost the spark and energy they displayed in the first half.
Eagles’ midfielder Fabian Kwok closed the night when he scored the second goal during extra time, as the midfielder skilfully cushioned the ball before striking a fantastic volley to seal the win.
