Live Commentary

  • A goal either side of the break gave Everton the win. Osman's shot took a large deflection to beat Foster. Then a great pass from Pienaar cut open the Baggies defence to give Anichebe the time and space to fire the ball into the net.
  • All over here. Moyes' men run out 2-0 winners in a game which they largely dominated. Hodgson looked disappointed but there was one bright spark and that was Ben Foster who had a great game between the sticks. He had no chance with both goals and the absence of the clean sheet was largely due to poor defending.
  • 90' + 2'
Howard left stranded as he rushes out to try and take possession from Andrews he fails to do so and the West Brom player chips the ball into the danger area, but his efforts are pointless as Jagielka is the first to the ball. Credit to Andrews there, many a player would have gone down looking for a penalty there but he stood tall.
  • 89'
West Brom look frustrated as we approach stoppage time, Odemwingie vents his anger with a shot from well out which flies into the crowd. And Andrews goes in harshly on Pienaar in a pointless challenge.
  • 88'
After Everton have a flurry of chances Foster screams at Odemwingie after the striker allowed Pienaar to get through to have a shot. Odemwingie squares up to Foster, but it is broke up by his teammates. Is this a start of another in house argument for the striker?
  • 87'
    SubstitutionNikica Jelavic James McFadden
  • 86'
Baines again delivers a ball into Jelavic on the penalty spot. This time Olsson does well to out muscle the striker and get to the ball first.
  • 84'
Jelavic is inches away from connecting with a ball from Baines. He was on his own and surely a strong touch would have seen the ball fly into the net for Everton's third.
  • 82'
Everton fans sing 'We're going to Wembley' as this game comes to an end and all three points look certain to take them above Liverpool who they are set to meet in the semi-finals of the FA Cup.
  • 79'
The ball bounces through the West Brom defence and Anichebe plays it into Jelavic who seems surprised he is possession and fluffs a chance from just in front of Foster's goal.
  • 78'
    SubstitutionChris Brunt Simon Cox
  • 75'
Great play from Everton. Jelavic has great vision to back heel the ball into the path of Pienaar, taking three defenders with him. It is almost a one-on-one with Foster but his shot is saved well by Foster clearing the ball from danger.
  • 73'
    SubstitutionSomen Tchoyi Marc-Antoine Fortune
  • 69'
Pienaar charges from the half-way line and with the West Brom defence retreating he plays it into Anichebe who has enough time to fire a shot into the the bottem corner straight past a helpless Foster.
  • 68'
    Assist Steven Pienaar
  • 68'
    Goal Victor Anichebe
2-0!!!! Anichebe comes off of the bench to score an empthatic second for Everton.
  • 67'
    SubstitutionPaul Scharner Graham Dorrans
  • 66'
Baines, Gibson and Jelavic all stand over a freekick from just outside the box. Jelavic is the man who tries as he takes no run up trying to curl it into the top corner. His effort is poor and that is a good chance wasted.
  • 65'
    Yellow Card Jonas Olsson
  • 62'
    SubstitutionTim Cahill Victor Anichebe
Cahill is replaced by Anichebe. The Australian has had a largely uneventful game despite his undeserved yellow card.
  • 60'
    Yellow Card Tim Cahill
  • 59'
West Brom hit Everton on the counter attack as Gibson uncharacteristically loses the ball. Odemwingie gets the ball on the edge of the box. He rolls it in to Andrews who runs on to the ball but his shot sails high and wide.
  • 55'
    Yellow Card Nikica Jelavic
Jelavic is booked straight after his chance, he was angered at not winning a free kick himself and he lead with his arm in an areil challenge with Ridgewell.
  • 54'
Baines takes the ball to the bye-line and swings in a ball which puts it on Jelavic's head, but he is at a tight angle. The striker does well to get the ball on target but it would have taken a massive mistake from Foster to have found the net.
  • 50'
Gibson delivers a ball into the back post to Felliani, but Foster again is strong in the air and climbs above the midfielder to collect the ball easily.
  • 47'
Felliani tries a shot early into this half. He fires on from the right hand corner of the box but it flies into the side netting as Foster stands on the post confidently watching it wide.
  • 46'
    SubstitutionLeon Osman Magaye Gueye
The game is back underway, with Gueye replacing the goal scorer Osman making way. He picked up a knock and it is likely Moyes just didn't want to risk his fitness.
  • West Brom only really came into the goal after Hodgson saw his side pass up a fantastic opportunity to grab a crucial equalizer. Yet they still haven't been able to get on top of Everton but do look like they could pop up with a goal.
  • Good match so far Everton deserve their narrow lead after dominating the first half. Although I do have some sympathy for Ben Foster who has had a very good first 45 minutes, he has been dominant in the air and could do nothing about the goal after the ball cannoned off of McAuley to leave him stranded on the other side of the goal.
  • 45' + 1'
And the referee blows up for half-time.
  • 45'
West Brom start a charge as we enter a single minute of stoppage time. They play the ball carefully around the edge of the box but Tchoyi opts to curl a ball in, but sees it fly well wide of Howard's goal.
  • 44'
Felliani is furious with Andrews as the Belgian was bundled over in a bog-standard challenge. I'm not sure what made him so angry, you see them numerous times in any Premier League match.
  • 41'
Pienaar with another chance as his speedy run sees him cut inside and quickly hit a shot which fizzes just wide of Foster's goal. The keeper had to stretch as he dived to his right. Foster had it covered all the way as he judged it perfectly to let it role past his goal.
  • 37'
Shouts for a penalty from West Brom as Baines controls the ball with his chest, but the visiting side and their fans still scream 'handball'. Very soft claim and Baines rightly goes unpunished.
  • 33'
Long intercepts on the half way line with the ball rolling to Odemwingie who charges to the edge of the box. He nudges the ball the Scharner hoping for a one-two, but his touch is poor and his teammate has to take a couple of touches before making a poor pass of his own. Seeing the ball roll out for an Everton throw-in.
  • 29'
Everton react to that West Brom chance, as Felliani collects a loose ball outside the box, taking a touch before getting a shot away. The powerful effort is dealt with by Foster but he is furious with his defence for giving the Belgian so much space.
  • 27'
GREAT CHANCE!!! West Brom have a fantastic chance to equalize. Scharner gets behind the defence far to easily and fires a ball low to Howards left. He can only parry across goal. Long tries to get there but misses but Brunt mops up, trying a shot from a tight angle. His shot unfortunately hits his team mate and goes out for a goal kick.
  • 25'
Gibson is just camping in the middle of the park orchestrating the game at the minute. Allowing both full backs and the rest of the midfielders to get forward and attack.
  • 20'
Everton deserve to be in the lead, with the home side dominating the game so far. Only a minute before a booming shout from Moyes shouting for Hibbert and Osman to exploit that wing could be heard. And the Scottish managers tactics duely came good there.
  • 18'
    Own Goal Gareth McAuley
  • 18'
    Assist Leon Osman
  • 16'
All of the play seems to be coming from the left wing, with Pienaar and Baines seeing a lot of the ball. The latest move ended with Pienaar trying a speculative cross but he puts far to much behind it and it sails into the crowd behind the goal.
  • 12'
Gibson swings in a corner from the left right into West Brom's back post. Foster has to stretch to get to it, but he does well to collect the ball in the air before Cahill and Jagielka could nod the ball into the net.
  • 9'
Osman looks in pain after Shane Long collided with the player. Totally innocent from the West Brom man, but he just caught Osman. A little bit of treatment and the midfielder is back running again.
  • 6'
Baines and Pienaar combine again down the left as the Englishman plays it to the on-loan midfielder. He is facing away from the goal and chooses to roll a ball into the path of Darren Gibson. The former Red Devil unleashes a shot with his first touch but it is just over the bar.
  • 4'
Everton look sharp in the opening minutes as Pienaar takes a free kick, from his own half, quickly looking to play in Baines behind the West Brom defence. The thought was there but his ball is a bit too heavy and the left back cannot get to the ball before it rolls out for a goal kick.
  • 3'
Baines creates the first chance, as he swings in a looping cross from deep on the left. Osman is the man who finds the ball rushing in from the edge of the box to meet the ball with his head. Although he lost his marker he could not direct the ball and it is well wide of Ben Fosters goal.

And we are underway at Goodison Park, with the hosts getting us started.
  • Recent good form from the Baggies such as big wins over Wolves and Sunderland as well as beating Chelsea has been somewhat undone by the defeat they suffered last weekend. The 3-1 loss to Newcastle really showed Hodgson's side that they cannot afford to be complacent in this run in, so they will be looking to get back to winning ways in todays game.
  • Three points for David Moyes' men would see them rise above local rivals Liverpool, but a win for West Brom would see them move further away from the relegation zone.
  • This defensive record can only be helped by the return of their talismanic defender Phil Jagielka, who came off of the bench during their FA Cup tie against Sunderland.
  • Everton go into this match having kept three clean sheets in their last four Premier League games at home. Keeping out Manchester City, Tottenham, Chelsea and only conceeding one against Arsenal in their 1-0 defeat.
  • West Brom: Foster; Jones, Olsson, McAuley, Ridgewell; Tchoyi, Andrews, Brunt, Scharner; Long, Odemwingie. Subs: Daniels, Shorey, Dawson, Dorrans, Mulumbu, Cox, Fortune.
