SAFFC claimed top spot in Group A following their victory against Brunei DPMM at the Yishun stadium

The Warriors will meet Hougang United in the League Cup quarter-final after seeing off the Wasps courtesy of a goal each from Fazrul Nawas and Aliff Shafaein.

DPMM started the better of the two offensively as, former SAFFC player, Ivan Jerkovic cleverly spotted the run by Basiru Osman and sent a defence-splitting pass. The lanky striker opted for an audacious lob over Rezal Hassan which went completely wrong.

It took SAFFC untill the 15th minute to get their act together.  Jonjic went on a solo run down the right and sent the ball across the box. Thankfully for the Wasps, Wardun Yussof got down early to claim the ball as Fazrul Nawas was waiting to pounce at the far end.

Fazrul would finally be celebrating a minute before the half hour mark as he got to the end of a Ruzaini Zainal cross to make it a goal up for the Warriors.

A minute after the restart, the Warriors were almost punished for their defensive mistake but were saved by the quick reflexes of Rezal in goal.

Zulfadli Zainal was unable to control the ball well at the edge of the box and Shahrazen managed to regain possession but his shot was well saved by Rezal from point blank.

Four minutes later, the focus was shifted to the other end as the Warriors were awarded a penalty after Wardun was adjudged to have brought Aliff Shafaein in the box.

Responsibility fell to Shukor Zailan but he was denied as Wardun guessed correctly to palm the ball away to safety.

Despite mounting a late onslaught on goal, the Wasps could not get past Rezal in goal as the former national custodian put out a stupendous performance with numerous goal-bound saves and quick reflexes.

It was the Warriors that added to their tally eventually as Aliff slotted the ball to the back of the net from a Fazrul cross.

As runners-up in Group A, DPMM will travel to Bishan stadium this Saturday to take on Home United in the quarter-final.
