  • Right that is all from me, Matt Smith (@ElasticoChop) - Head over to Goal.com's main site for the rest of the coverage on all the 3pm FA Cup kick offs. Cheers.
  • Newcastle were poor from start to finish and with Shola Ameobi now suspended in the league, it seems things may only get worse. Brighton triumphant and should be proud of their display, swiftly seeing off the Premier League outfit.
  • Newcastle were extremely lacklustre and poor going forward, the inexperience shined through and Brighton took full advantage. A very competent display from Poyet's team.
  • A good performance from the home side and for the second season running Brighton knock Newcastle United in FA Cup with ease.
  • 90'
    Full Time. Brighton 2-0 Newcastle
  • 90'
Will Hoskins nearly gets another as the ball is looped through again. We have now played the full 90 minutes.
  • 87'
    GoalWill Hoskins
GOAL! Brighton seal the win, substitute Will Hoskins calmly slots the ball underneath Rob Elliot. Mike Williamson massively out of position again.
  • 85'
LuaLua drives wide from 20 yards out.
  • 85'
Another corner for Brighton, the home side now seem to be freely seeing out the game. No drive from Newcastle and lack of any attacking promise.

  • 82'
Bridge hits a shot which is deflected out for a corner.
  • 80'
Entered the final ten minutes. Brighton need to hold on in order to knock Newcastle out of the FA Cup for the second season in a row.
  • 78'
Newcastle upping the pressure with another dangerous cross swung into the area.
  • 77'
Sammy Ameobi hits deflected shot after beating two players, Ankergren makes the save although it was probably going wide.
  • 74'
Marveaux hits shot after fumble in the box but a fantastic block from Bridcutt. The following corner results in a header over the top from Ranger.
  • 72'
Gabriel Obertan is replaced by Sylvain Marveaux. Another lacklustre performance from the ex Man United midfielder. Newcastle will hope Marveaux can spark something in attack.
  • 71'
Brighton top goalscorer Craig Mackail-Smith is replaced by Will Hoskins as Brighton try to shut the game out.

Newcastle bossed the last few minutes but can't find an end product. Nile Ranger looks like a man who hasn't played football for years...oh wait...
  • 67'
Kazenga LuaLua is looking up for it since coming on. Could possibly see the ex Newcastle man grabbing a goal today.
  • 65'
Brighton now capitalising on Newcastle's ten men. Constant attack from the home side.
  • 63'
    Yellow/RedShola Ameobi
  • 62'
Shola Ameobi has been sent off for another rash tackle. Slightly harsh as there is very little contact. Lopez makes the most of it and the skipper has to walk.
  • 60'
Goalscorer Orlandi is replaced to a standing ovation from the home support, Kazenga LuaLua replaces him, receiving applause from both sets of fans. He made 8 eight starts for Newcastle United.
  • 59'

  • 57'
Game starting to open up with both sides creating space down the flanks.
  • 55'
Swung in ball from Anita which Shola Ameobi flicks on, Ranger hits the loose ball on the volley but it probably ended up in Brighton High Street.

  • 48'
The second half has started much like the first with Brighton dictating possession and Newcastle unable to find their final ball.
  • 47'
    Yellow CardShola Ameobi
  • 47'
This season Newcastle have not won a game under Alan Pardew after going behind and Brighton this season have not lost a game after going ahead.
  • 46'
Pardew has now shifted to a 442 formation which looks pretty attacking. Range and Shola Ameobi with huge aerial presence up front with Sammy Ameobi moving out wide.
  • 45'
We are back underway at the AMEX Stadium...
  • And here is Pardew's big change. Nile Ranger and Paul Dummett replace James Perch and Mehdi Abeid.
  • I wonder how much Alan Pardew will change this shape? surely his reputation is on the line and could see potential fan uproar if Newcastle leave another cup far too early?
  • Newcastle will be disappointed with their performance so far. No spark or creative edge from the visitors and with the absence of Papiss Cisse & Hatem Ben Arfa you do wonder where their goals will come from?
  • Cheers at the half time whistle from the home support and they can be proud of the way their team have dictated the game. Nice football and controlled attacks from Poyet's army have pushed Newcastle deep and they got their reward with the goal from Orlandi.

1 minute of stoppage time to be played.
  • 44'
Tavernier sums up Newcastle's first half with a poor looping cross that sails over Brighton's goal.
  • 41'
Five minutes before half time and Brighton still looking the more authoritative. Mackail-Smith has been kept quiet but Hammond, Barnes & Orlandi running the midfield with ease.

    Yellow CardMehdi Abeid

Brighton now trying to utilise the left flank more with Bridge bounding forward very often.

Vurnon Anita drives wide. I think that is the first thing he has done today, meaning has done one more thing that Mehdi Abeid
  • 36'
Newcastle started well after the goal but still aren't putting enough pressure on the Brighton back four.
  • 33'
    GoalOrlandi
GOAL! Orlandi tucks a nice volley home after Wayne Bridge put a nice delivery into the box under pressure.
  • 33'
Very nice finish from Andrea Orlandi, the Barcelona born midfielder has far too much time in the box but tucks home very neatly.
  • 30'
I may just throw it out there that this is the worst first half hour of football i've seen all season.
  • 27'
Newcastle starting to get the upper hand now but still attacking without much finesse. Brighton defending well.
  • 25'
Sammy Ameobi is pulled down just outside the area but for the third time today he isn't able to get a thing from the referee.
  • 23'
    Yellow CardDean Hammond
  • 23'
Tavernier pulled back for hand ball after getting forward well. It seems Tavernier & Obertan are trying to target Bridge in order to get some room.
  • 22'
Gael Bigirimana strikes from 30 yards and makes Ankergren save well. Corner Newcastle.
  • 21'
Newcastle looking extremely unthreatening so far, the game is extremely slow paced, Brighton with early signs of attacking prowess.
  • 19'
Kazenga LuaLua is shown warming up on the sideline. How he would love to get a goal against his former club today!
  • 17'
The lack of experience in Pardew's side is quite evident so far with Bigirimana, Abeid and Sammy Ameobi being pressed out of the game.
  • 15'
Quite a cagey start from both sides. Brighton full-back Lopez drives a hard shot which Elliot saves well. More good attack play from Brighton.
  • 12'
Still consistent pressure from the home side, Dicker swings in another cross but Elliot claims with ease.
  • 8'
Perch heads the ball off the line after a fantastic header from Dicker.
  • 6'
Obertan hits a deflected shot which goes comfortably into Ankergren's gloves.
  • 2'
Good early start from the home side. Dean Hammond driving a shot just over the bar.

    We are underway at AMEX...
  • Newcastle fan in away end sporting a golden onesie. Respect sir. In other news, the teams are in tunnel.
  • Prediction from me; 1-1 and another nervy tie back at St James' Park.
  • Right ladies and gents, we are eight minutes away from kick off at the AMEX.
  • Brighton will be looking to in-form striker Craig Mackail-Smith to attack Alan Pardew's vulnerable defence.
  • Newcastle without key players Papiss Cisse and Fabricio Coloccini. A big chance for Sammy Ameobi and Mehdi Abeid to show what they can do.
  • Brighton Starting XI: Ankergren, David, Greer, El-Abd, Bridge; Bridcutt, Hammond, Dicker, Orlandi; Barnes, Mackail-Smith. SUBS: Kuszczak, Dunk, Crofts, LuaLua, Buckley, Dobbie, Hoskins
  • Newcastle United Starting XI: Elliot; Tavernier, Williamson, Perch, Santon; Anita, Bigirimana; Obertan, Abeid, Sammy Ameobi; Shola Ameobi. SUBS: Krul, Dummett, Ferguson, Amalfitano, Marveaux, Campbell, Ranger
  • Without hesitation here is the team news...
  • I'm Matt Smith (@ElasticoChop) and I'll be taking you through all the action at the AMEX. Brighton will be looking to capitalise on Newcastle's weakened squad and will be hoping to knock them out of the competition for the second season running.
  • Good evening, and welcome to Goal.com's coverage of Brighton v Newcastle in the FA Cup 3rd Round.
