Didn't have a single shot of note to save in the first half but saw the visitors score two quick goals early in the second. Nolan's first took a slight deflection off Clark and otherwise may have been saved but Guzan was given no chance with the second.
Put in some forceful challenges on Cole and covered well for Bertrand if he was caught high up the pitch. But did get himself in a few awkward positions and that could have been prevented. Rushed out of position for the opener too.
Returned to the starting line-up in Ron Vlaar's absence and looked to be doing a decent job until the break. Two quick goals from the Hammers changed things and he was taken off shortly after.
Provided great width on the left going forward but was done for skill by Downing at his first real attempt. Later taken off and headed straight down the tunnel, clutching his thigh.
Hit and miss at times, could be clumsy in challenges and nearly allowed Cole an early chance on goal. Also made some timely interceptions, however, and was unlucky to deflect the opener past Guzan. Should have been tighter to Nolan.
Still not hitting his form of last season as he shrunk today and couldn't implement any presence on the game. Was slow to track back on a few occasions when pulled down the right and generally didn't have an impact.
Looked the only real consistent performer for his side throughout this game and tried to make his mark in midfield creatively. In a side that struggled today, he was one of the bright sparks once again - but did dither for the second goal.
Had a real positive game in the first half, drifting around the pitch with drive to get forward and providing great energy for his side. Started in the middle and looked strong but ended up at right-back and his performance was hindered.
Has operated behind the front two in recent games and did so again today, although wasn't spectacular. Not quick enough to break onto balls from midfield and didn't show great awareness in his link-up play. Poor decision making too.
Looked a little frustrated at times in this game, calling for the ball but not always receiving it. Dropped deeper to try and get more involved but couldn't muster anything up. Hit the bar with a header in the second half and tried desperately to score.
Made his return from a foot injury and worked hard, making runs in the channels and looking to make a positive impact. But didn't ever have a chance on goal, despite the home side's attacking intent late on.
Didn't have much in the way of shots on target to save in the first half but did save a looping header from Baker in the second half. Might have seen Albrighton's shot off the post rebound in but it went out for a corner.
Steady at left-back without putting in a spectacular display and looked an asset going forward, helping Jarvis on the overlap whenever he got forward.
Entertained an interesting battle with Benteke in the first half as the two heavyweights jostled for position and competed for challenges. Generally, he got the better of him and he looked dependable at right-back.
Put in a real hearty performance at the back against his former club, throwing his body in the way of balls and putting in some committed tackles. Part of a defence that prevented Villa to long shots and balls into the box.
Can no longer be classed as one of the club's emerging talents but he has formed a strong partnership with Collins at the back this season - hence their clean sheet record - and did so again today.
Both midfielders worked tirelessly for their sides and Noble put in a hard-working shift, as their midfield restricted the home side for space.
Provided energy for his side going forward and helped out in defence, almost transforming the team to a defensive six with him and Jarvis acting as wing-backs with Villa in their third. Twisted and turned to fire in the assist for the first goal.
Hit a double to secure a vital victory last time out with two first-half goals and did it again today. He scored his first with a cheeky back-heel, then added his second moments later one-on-one with the keeper after a fine finish.
Always a hard-worker in midfield, he wasn't afraid to get stuck in with challenges and always closed advancing players down. Performed well, given he is not naturally a central midfielder.
Both wingers provided energy for the visitors today and Jarvis put in a strong and committed shift. Seemed to pick up an injury in the second half when up against Albrighton and was hauled off in place of the returning Reid.
Led the line against his former club with Andy Carroll suspended and found the physicality of Baker tough to get around in the first half. Ultimately led to his withdrawal at the interval as Borriello came on for his debut.
Replaced the two-goal hero Nolan midway through the second half, making his second appearance for the Hammers. Didn't impact play going forward.
Brought on at half-time in place of Cole to make his debut and his side started superbly with two quick goals, although he wasn't given any opportunities afterward.
