The LionsXII could only salvage a point against Perak FA as they played out a 1-1 draw in Ipoh on Tuesday night, but they still maintained their four-point lead at the top of the Malaysian Super League (MSL) as their closest rivals Johor Darul Takzim stumbled to the same scoreline against relegation-threatened Felda United.

It was goalless in the first 45 minutes in Perak, with both goals coming after the half-time interval as LionsXII substitute Shahfiq Ghani cancelled out Paulo Rangel's opener.

V. Sundramoorthy’s side were restricted to long range efforts in the opening stages of the match, with captain Shahril Ishak ballooning his shot in the fifth minute before Safuwan Baharudin tried an ambitious crack at goal from a set piece 10 minutes later.

Azlan Ismail was a constant menace for Azraai Khor Abdullah’s charges with his marauding runs down the middle as he sought to pick out lone striker Rangel in the final third.

There was a nervy moment for the LionsXII two minutes after the break as Perak had the ball in the back of the net when Azlan headed the ball home.

But the home side's celebrations were short-lived as assistant referee had raised his flag for an offside against the 28-year-old striker.

Perak's pressure finally paid off a minute before the hour mark as they went ahead.

LionsXII custodian Izwan Mahbud could only parry Yong Kuong Yong's low drive into the path of Rangel, and the on-loan striker from Thai Premier League side Muangthong United made no mistake from a yard out.

The lead did not last long though. Impact substitute Shahfiq scored his fourth goal of the season, and his first on the road, just six minutes after coming on from the dead-ball in the 76th minute.

The forward's freekick from 30 yards swerved viciously and dipped wickedly at the crucial moment, leaving the goalkeeper helpless as it rocketed off the bar and into the back of the net for a priceless equaliser.

The hosts ended the match with 10 men after Khairi Kiman was given his marching orders by referee Kamal Ahmad in injury time.

With the result, the LionsXII can potentially wrap up the league title in their next match at home if they beat Felda on July 2 at the Jalan Besar Stadium.
