The LionsXII may have had favourable results against title contenders Anggota Tentera Malaysia and Selangor FA this season, but it is matches against the lesser teams that will help determine who ends up with the title.
The only blotches on the LionsXII's season so far are defeats to PKNS and the opposition they will be facing this Saturday at Jalan Besar. Terengganu PBDKT T-Team may be second last in the Malaysian Super League table and the match would seem like a walk in the park for the LionsXII at first glance.
The home side have an impressive record at the Jalan Besar Stadium. Seven victories out of seven is arguably title-winning form, and only three goals have been conceded at this fortress. It is also no coincidence that the LionsXII have the league's best defensive record with only a total of nine goals conceded after 15 games. On the other hand, T-Team have the league's joint-worst defensive record, having shipped in 21 goals.
The Singapore club will be without the services of Madhu Mohana, who was sent off in the last game. The previous game also saw Baihakki Khaizan pick up his eighth yellow card of the season. This however, is no reflection of the work that the defender has put in - after all, somebody has to do the dirty work.
Meanwhile, new T-Team favourite Damir Ibric will be expected to start this game and the lanky forward will be supported by Latiff Suhaimi upfront. Young midfielder Badrul Hisyam has improved by leaps and bounds this season and has proven to be a worthy midfield partner to George Boateng.
The home team will be bent on preserving their unbeaten record and their comeback against Terengganu FA is indeed a testament of how mentally disciplined and strong the team are despite being a young squad.
While the visitors won't roll over, V. Sundramoorthy's men should be looking at all three points here as they continue their title assault.
