Singapore will go into this Sunday's match against Malaysia on a victorious note after dispatching Pakistan 4-0 at Jurong West Stadium on Monday evening.

Singapore started the match brightly with Shi Jiayi scoring in the second minute. The winger latched on to a through ball from captain Shahril Ishak and thumped home via a massive deflection off of a Pakistani player.

Shahril then could have doubled the lead on nine minutes but was denied at close range by the visiting goalkeeper.

Shahdan Sulaiman and Khairul Amri both went close as well with neither being able to get a clean shot on goal. But the latter made amends by getting on the scoresheet before the break.

At the half-hour mark, Khairul pounced on another defence-splitting pass from Shahril to slot home from close range.

The half ended with Safuwan Baharuddin picking up a caution right before the whistle for the break.

Goalscorer Amri made way for Aleksandar Duric at the start of the second-half but Singapore did find the means to find the goals nevertheless.

Shahril Ishak first found the net on 64 minutes but his effort was ruled out for offside. The Singapore captain did get himself on the scoresheet 14 minutes before the final whistle.

Shahril finished off from a well-placed cross by Shahdan Sulaiman before making way Fazrul Nawaz just a minute later.

Second-half substitute Duric also registered himself as a goalscorer for the night. The veteran forward who will be ending his international career after this year's tournament got himself at the end of a Qiu Li cross to round off a thumping 4-0 victory for the home side.
