Player Ratings: Barcelona 5-1 Osasuna

Goal.com was on hand to cast a critical eye over events at Camp Nou where Lionel Messi was at his predatory best, scoring four times to get the league leaders back to winning ways

    Víctor Valdés

Could not do much for Osasuna's lone goal and was left untroubled for the vast majority of the game.

  • Daniel Alves

    Daniel Alves

Looked back to his old self with a performance full of attacking intent, constantly adopting dangerous positions in the offensive third, and sending a few quality deliveries into the area.

  • Carles Puyol

    Carles Puyol

Did extremely well to put his body on the line when defending set pieces, and showed real energy in his play throughout his time on the pitch.

  • Adriano

    Adriano

Though he found plenty of opportunity to scamper up and down the left flank, his deliveries once he found himself in a crossing position often left a lot to be desired. That was until the 58th minute, when he finally got one right to set up Messi's fourth goal.

  • Xavi

    3.50

    Xavi

Simply indomitable in the middle of the park, as his exquisite passing from deep set two of Barca’s first half goals in motion, though admittedly, he found Alves offside for one of them.

  • Thiago Alcántara

    Thiago Alcántara

He did not always appear quite on the level of Xavi in the home side's midfield, but still acquitted himself well, playing a part in a number of eye-catching passing sequences.

  • Javier Mascherano

    Javier Mascherano

Not the busiest day at the office for the Argentine by any means, but he took care of what little fell his way with the minimum of fuss.

  • Busquets

    Busquets

Put in plenty of good work off the ball, as he provided his defence with a good degree of protection by mopping up a few dangerous situations when Osasuna attacked from set pieces. Played some intricate passes with his teammates as well.

  • David Villa

    David Villa

Did not always appear at ease with the pace of the game in the first half, but his play improved markedly after the break, and he was able to set up one of Messi’s goals with a delightful through ball that slipped between a defenders wickets.

It’s become common to take for granted the Argentine’s week in- week out brilliance, but after a performance like this, even the most apathetic football fan must sit up and marvel. Messi was at his predatory best, plundering four goals, and making the visitors feel their numerical deficit in the most painful way. It defies belief how clinical he can be once given even a sniff at goal.

  • Pedro

    Pedro

His movement across the front line really aided his team, keeping the defence on its toes and giving the Barca playmakers a runner to pick out. Scored a really simple goal with a tap-in.

    Cesc Fàbregas

Did not seem to eager to make his mark on proceedings, a tad lethargic off the bench.

  • Alex Song

    Alex Song

A stress free outing for him in the midfield, as he was never put under pressure when on the ball.

  • Alexis Sánchez
    28
    7
    2.50

    Alexis Sánchez

Spurned one or two chances late in the game, but appeared to be trying really hard to make a positive impression after recent criticism.

  • Andrés Fernández

    Andrés Fernández

A terrible clearance gifted Barca the opener, and he as hardly the most convincing figure between the posts throughout the game.

  • Marc Bertrán
    3

    2.50

    Marc Bertrán

Beaten to the ball on multiple occasions by the Barca frontline, and generally struggled to cope with the pace of the game.

  • Miguel Flaño

    Miguel Flaño

Run ragged at times by the movement of Barca's attack, often leaving him clueless as to which man to mark.

  • Manuel Ortiz Toribio

    Manuel Ortiz Toribio

Fared slightly better than the rest of the defence, as he was at least able to stick closely to his man and deny him much crossing space.

    Arribas Flop of the Match

Picked up two quick yellow cards, albeit in somewhat harsh circumstances, that nevertheless conceded a penalty and left his team a man down for the majority of the game. A brief, and utterly redundant display.

  • Oier
    1
    1
    2.50

    Oier

A rather difficult game for him to attempt to orchestrate the attacking threat for his side. He really found himself starved of the ball for most of the game.

  • Nano

    Nano

Completely overrun in the middle of the park. Really struggled to put himself about.

  • De las Cuevas

    De las Cuevas

A fruitless outing for him on the wing, as he never stood a chance of getting enough service to make an impact.

  • Álvaro Cejudo

    Álvaro Cejudo

Spent most of his time chasing shadows off the ball, as he never had enough possession to attack the fullbacks.

  • Raoul Cédric Loe

    3.50

    Raoul Cédric Loe

Put in a great tackle at the last to deny Pedro from close range, and restored some semblance of credit for his side with a well struck goal that for one brief moment, brought the score to 1-1.

  • Joseba Llorente

    Joseba Llorente

Held up the ball well, and was admirable in his determination to put pressure on the centre backs.

Substitutions

  • Rubén

His 20 or so minutes on the pitch gave his side some fresh legs in their bid to keep the score down.

Could not influence the game in any way, shape or form.
