Live Commentary

  • We hope that you have enjoyed's LIVE coverage of Dortmund's late 2-1 win over struggling Stuttgart! I've been Simon Harrison, and I hope to see you all next time!
  • Goals from Piszczek, Lewandowski won the game for Dortmund, despite a second-half equaliser from Maxim, and the home side continue their poor form of late. A 70th minute red card for Niedermeier made Dortmund's job a little easier too.
  • That result means that Bayern are unable to win the Bundesliga trophy until next weekend - if Stuttgart had managed to hold onto a point, then the league leaders could have won the title later on today.
  • That's it! Full time, and Klopp looks overjoyed! Dortmund has managed to grab the three points against the ten men of Stuttgart, who matched the visitors for large portions of the match.
  • 90' + 4'
Dortmund take the ball into the corner, in an attempt to run down the clock a little more, and Subotic is keen to clear any ball which comes his way, about 80 yards towards the Stuttgart goal.
  • 90' + 3'
This looks as though it's going to end favourably for Dortmund! Bayern will have to wait another week for their title party, it seems!
  • 90' + 1'
Good defending from Rocker! Reus was almost allowed to burst clear of the Stuttgart defence, but the substitute just about managed to hook the ball away before Reus got into full stride!
  • 90'
Great claim from Weidenfeller! Traore whips in a dangerous free-kick, but the Dortmund stopper is quick off his line to claim the ball and prevent any of the awaiting Stuttgart players from getting their head on it.
  • 89'
    SubstitutionArthur Boka Federico Macheda
  • 89'
Scheiber again! The substitute attempts to chest the ball home, after more good work down the flank from Piszczek! Ulreich easily claims the ball.
  • 87'
CLOSE! Scheiber almost gets on the scoresheet! Piszczek again goes on a marauding run down the right, where he's had free reign, cuts the ball back to the edge of the box for his fellow substitute, but Scheiber shoots narrowly wide of the post!
  • 86'
CLOSE! Reus just can't seem to score today! After good work down the left, the youngster is given the ball at a tight angle, and sees his effort blocked by a huddle of defenders and Ulreich!
  • 85'
Emotions are running high for the home side, who clearly feel that they've been on the end of some unfair refereeing decisions. Gentner is the latest culprit to go beserk at the linesman, as frustration begins to really show.
  • 84'
    Yellow Card Kevin Großkreutz
  • 84'
Piszczek has made a wonderful contribution since coming on as a first half substitute. He has a goal and an assist to his name, with the latter being a great pass to pick out an unmarked Robert Lewandowski!
  • 83'
    SubstitutionMario Götze Julian Schieber
  • 82'
    Assist Lukasz Piszczek
  • 82'
    Goal Robert Lewandowski
GOOOOAL! LEWANDOWSKI! It was coming, and there's the goal! He smashes the ball home at the back post, after a great cross from Piszczek!
  • 82'
Oh dear, Boka pick up a rather embarrassing yellow card for a horrendous dive. Under little pressure from any players in yellow, the Stuttgart midfielder threw himself to the ground despite no contact... deserved card for simulation.
  • 81'
    Yellow Card Arthur Boka
  • 80'
OOOH! SO CLOSE! Phenomenal interplay between Reus, Lewandowksi and Gotze puts the Polish striker through on goal, before he lifts the ball over Ulreich! Reus looks to be about to nod the ball into an unguarded net, but Sakai appears from nowhere to recover and kick the ball into touch! Great defending!
  • 79'
Dortmund are laying siege to the Stuttgart box, the home side are essentially forming a white wall on the edge of the 18 yard box and inviting Klopp's side to attack. Leitner just fired an effort narrowly over from just outside the box.
  • 77'
Felipe Santana quickly heads off the pitch for treatment, after being caught in the cheek by a high elbow from Ibisevic. In fairness to the Brazilian, he didn't make a big deal out of the clash - others would have tried to get their opponent sent off.
  • 75'
Ulreich has had more to do in the past five minutes than in the rest of the game in its entirety. The home side are trying to waste time at any given opportunity, it's definitely going to be a game of attrition for the remaining minutes.
  • 74'
Ibisevic is looking a lot more isolated now that Stuttgart are down to ten. The Bosnian appears to have a big task ahead of him now, as he's leading the line with little support - the hosts just can't afford to push too many men forward against an ascendant Dortmund.
  • 73'
    SubstitutionAlexandru Iulian Maxim Benedikt Röcker
  • 73'
It looks like it will be backs to the wall stuff for the home side now. Rocker replaces the goalscorer Maxim, as Labbadia's men look to be attempting to hold out for a well-earned point.
  • 72'
CLOSE! Ulreich is quick of his line to close down the angle and save a Subotic effort from close range! Dortmund are pressing now that the hosts are a man light!
  • 71'
In the process of the foul, the Dortmund youngster fell on Niedermeier, prompting the Stuttgart defender to roll around holding his face - rather ridiculously. Gotze received a yellow for his part in it.
  • 70'
    Yellow Card Mario Götze
  • 70'
RED CARD! Niedermeier is sent off, for his second yellow card - he's kicking things on the sidelines and appears inconsolable! He caught Gotze with his studs showing, he can't have any complaints for me!
  • 69'
    Yellow/Red Georg Niedermeier
  • 69'
PENALTY APPEAL! Felipe Santana looked to have caught the ball with his hand, but I don't think he knew anything about it! That wouldn't been harsh, and the referee waves away the Stuttgart claims.
  • 68'
Lewandowski has gone down holding his back, after clashing with Niedermeier. I must say, the Stuttgart defender really has been in the wars this afternoon!
  • 66'
Groskreutz just performed a foul throw-in, I think he might be a little embarrassed about that! After conceding, Dortmund have been pressing.
  • 65'
CLOSE! Felipe Santana rises highest to challenge for a Dortmund corner, but the Brazilian nods the ball over the bar! He couldn't quite get over it!
  • 64'
That could well be a wake up call for Dortmund! They've not been able to match the intensity of Stuttgart in this second half, and the hosts have just reaped the rewards.
  • 63'
    Assist Christian Gentner
  • 63'
    Goal Alexandru Iulian Maxim
GOOOOAL! MAXIM! The hosts are finally level! After cutting in from the right, after controlling a throw-in, the Romanian strikes across Weidenfeller and into the bottom corner! Great finish!
  • 62'
Harnik has been very impressive for the hosts this afternoon. He possesses great technical ability and has been causing problems for Groskreutz and Sahin all game..
  • 60'
    SubstitutionIlkay Gündogan Moritz Leitner
  • 60'
I don't think that Stuttgart can believe they've just failed to score there! Gotze came to the rescue for the visitors.. Labbadia will be wondering what his side have to do to pick up three points at home!
  • 59'
OOOOOH! HOW HASN'T THAT GONE IN! Maxim whips in a free-kick, before Harnik hits the top of the upright, the rebound is fired at goal by Rudinger once again but blocked on the line! So close!
  • 57'
CLOSE! LEWANDOWSKI! The Dortmund number nine controls the ball brilliantly under pressure in the box, but Niedermeier manages to hook the ball away before the Polish striker can get a shot away!
  • 56'
OOOH! CLOSE FOR SAHIN! After a quick break, the ball finds it's feet at the Turkish international's feet, but his strike is blocked well!
  • 54'
Rudiger tracks back well to deny Lewandowski the chance to double Dortmund's lead! He clears the ball out for a corner, from which total pinball ensues, with Sahin seeing a sweetly hit strike cannon off a ruck of Stuttgart defenders!
  • 53'
OOOH! WHAT A MISS! A free-kick is whipped in delightfully for Stuttgart, and Niedermeier looks to be in the perfect position to nod the ball home beyond Weidenfeller, but he gets it ALL wrong! The ball bounces off the side of his head and way, way wide!
  • 52'
Now it's Maxim's turn to go down, after he was caught by Piszczek. Niedermeier returns to the field, although somewhat gingerly.
  • 51'
Niedermeier is still down receiving treatment, and a host of Stuttgart players are warming up on the sidelines. He's managed to walk off with assistance, but I'm not sure whether he's going to come straight back into the action.
  • 50'
Niedermeier has gone down in agony, rolling around and calling for treatment. Gundogan seemed to just tread on the foot of the central defender, but he's really making a big deal out of this - it must be serious.
  • 49'
Groskreutz looks to be in some discomfort, and is limpign quite heavily. Felipe caught the full-back when he was in full flow down the left flank, catching Groskreutz' ankle with his studs.
  • 48'
We're only three minutes into the second half, and there have already been three wasted long balls. Both sides aren't afraid to launch the ball forward, looking to use the pace of Reus and Traore respectively.
  • 47'
Dortmund are pressing much higher in this second half, populating the Stuttgart half with a couple more players than in the first. Under a bit more pressure, I think that Klopp is hoping for the hosts to make a few more unforced errors.
  • 46'
The game is back underway! This game is far from being a certain win for either side, it's very much still in the balance. If Dortmund can continue the momentum from the last five minutes of the first half, they've got every chance of grabbing an early second half goal.
  • Labbadia will presumably tell his side to keep doing what they're doing, they've been right in this game throughout the entire half. Dortmund have grown into the match a little more as the game has progressed, but Lewandowski has only been able to prove his worth on a few occasions.
  • Klopp didn't look at easy throughout that entire first half, and rightly so. Stuttgart had an early goal chalked off after Ibisevic was adjudged to be offside, and Traore has been somewhat of a thorn in the side of the Dortmund defence. Weidenfeller has been by far the busier of the two keepers.
  • There's the half time whistle! A 29th minute Piszczek header separates the two sides, and in all honesty Stuttgart probably deserve to be level. Despite Reus and Gotze playing well for the visitors, the home side have had their fair share of good chances.
  • 45' + 2'
OOH! GOTZE! The youngster finds himself in plenty of space at the back post, before he cuts inside his marker and hammers the ball at goal! A wall of defenders stands in his way, and one of them gets an important block in!
  • 45' + 1'
Gotze wins a corner for his wide in first half stoppage time, after his attempted nutmeg on Niedermeier is blocked. The set piece comes to nothing, and is cleared easily. Gotze and Reus really have popped up in dangerous places for the away side.
  • 45'
Moments after Traore's complaints, the Stuttgart forward is put through on goal after a fantastic ball from deep - but he's offside!
  • 44'
Traore is looking a little disappointed with the quality of delivery from his teammates, as a lot of long balls from Stuttgart aren't finding their intended target. He gesticulates wildly to convey the types of ball that he desires!
  • 42'
Ooh! CLOSE! Reus snatches his shot wide, after picking up the ball on the edge of the box! Moments earlier, before the ball fell to Reus, Lewandowski held up the ball fantastically, before his shot was blocked after a smart turn.
  • 41'
Gundogan makes a strong run down the left flank, but Rudinger tracks back brilliantly to prevent the youngster from doing any damage. Both sides are really struggling to impose themselves as the dominant force in this game, the midfield battle is very even.
  • 39'
A strong attack from Dortmund comes to nothing, as Lewandowski sees his shot strike a defender. Currently Felipe Santana is down holding his head, after challenging for a header with his marker! He's fine to continue, though.
  • 38'
Oh dear, how embarrassing.. Traore goes down holding his face, after seeming to clash with Mario Gotze, despite there being minimal contact!
  • 37'
The Romanian lines up to strike the ball, but Rudiger takes the free-kick instead! He hits the two-man wall, that really was quite atrocious, what a waste!
  • 36'
This has been a very stop-start game in the past ten minutes. It's now Stuttgart's turn to float in a free-kick, with Maxim standing over the ball.
  • 34'
CHANCE! Stuttgart break quickly, releasing the ball down the left flank before it is switched inside to Traore! He tries a long-range effort, but Weidenfeller gobbles the ball up easily, that really was a tame strike.
  • 33'
    Yellow Card Georg Niedermeier
  • 33'
Gotze and Niedermeier clash, with the Dortmund number ten looking to be unimpressed by a heavy tackle from the Stuttgart centre-half! The referee agrees with Gotze, awarding a free-kick in a dangerous area - but Lewandowski fails to turn the ball home under pressure from the same man who gave the free-kick away.
  • 32'
Labbadia will definitely feel aggrieved with the scoreline, his side have had the better of the possession and chances so far, but find themselves behind. Dortmund meanwhile, have had two chances, and netted once.
  • 31'
Dortmund have got the wind in their sails now! They've really increased their tempo, and while the hosts have had plenty of possession, the away side are countering very well - Reus in particular.
  • 29'
    Assist Marco Reus
  • 29'
    Goal Lukasz Piszczek
GOOOOAL! THE SUBSTITUTE! Piszczek heads home a free-kick won and taken by Reus, to give the away side the lead! Stuttgart's player surround the referee, I don't think they're happy that the set piece was awarded in the first place!
  • 26'
The referee again has to get involved, moments after the Schmelzer injury, to have strong words with Stuttgart's Rudiger. He's certainly not had the easiest game so far, there have been a few key incidents and we're not even half an hour in!
  • 24'
    SubstitutionMarcel Schmelzer Lukasz Piszczek
  • 24'
On second thoughts, that card was definitely merited! Schmelzer is being helped off the pitch, looking rather groggy, and is bleeding heavily from his face! That looks really nasty. Piszczek comes on to replace him.
  • 23'
    Yellow Card Martin Harnik
  • 23'
Harnik is booked for a high foot on Schmelzer, after the Austrian accidentally kicked the German defender in the face while stretching to connect with a free-kick delivery! That was perhaps a little harsh!
  • 22'
Harnik just pulled off some lovely skill! Faced with the intimidating figure of Felipe Santana, the Austrian number seven flicked the ball deftly over him! Santana brought down Harnik as a result, but the hosts were unable to convert from the resulting free-kick!
  • 20'
That chance from Reus moments ago just proves that a quality side like Dortmund can't be counted out of a game! The away side turned defence into attack with two quick passes, and Stuttgart look unable to deal with the pace of Reus.
  • 19'
REUS! SO CLOSE! The pacey forward is fed with a channel ball from Lewandowski, before trying to clip the ball over Ulreich from a tight angle! He wheels away, almost in celebration, but the ball bounces narrowly wide of the back post! Unlucky!
  • 18'
Stuttgart continue to look the more assured of the two sides, stroking the ball around quite nicely, while the pace of Traore is causing a few problems. Lewandowski is yet to really get involved in the game, Dortmund aren't getting hold of the ball in dangerous areas.
  • 17'
Stuttgart pick up a free-kick from about 40 yards out, which Maxim sees as a chance to test Weidenfeller! The Romanian, who is sporting a rather nice protective mask, provides some catching practice for Dortmund's keeper.. not the best free-kick I've ever seen!
  • 15'
Traore is denied again! Stuttgart break, and Traore receives the ball at the half way line, before sprinting towards a rather vulnerable Dortmund net! Schmelzer recovers well though, and puts the ball into touch, just as Traore looked very dangerous!
  • 14'
Moments after Traore's chance, Dortmund break up the field and win a free-kick in a dangerous are! The ball is flighted in, but Subotic can't direct it goalwards and it's cleared at the second attempt!
  • 13'
CLOSE! TRAORE! The Stuttgart forward bursts past Schmelzer, but is unable to beat the onrushing Weidenfeller from about 20 yards out! The Dortmund keeper manages to get enough on the shot to prevent in from rolling past him and into the net!
  • 12'
Ibisevic thinks he's scored! The striker gets up well to nod a free-kick home past a helpless Weidenfeller, but the assistant referee has his flag up! It won't count, offside!
  • 11'
CHANCE! Reus finds himself one-on-one with Ulreich after a great through ball parts the Stuttgart defence, but the keeper is quick off his line to deny the Dortmund forward!
  • 10'
From these opening exchanges, you certainly wouldn't be able to guess which side was in second place, and which side is struggling at the opposite end of the table! Dortmund are yet to threaten Ulreich's net.
  • 8'
Harnik has already shown himself to be dangerous for Stuttgart, and after the advanced midfielder picked up a goal for Austria last week, Dortmund may need to keep an eye on him. The hosts have definitely had the better of the opening ten minutes, Dortmund are defending very deep.
  • 6'
Some nice work down the right flank by Harnik is stopped by a well-timed sliding challenge from Felipe Santana. The home side win a corner, but Weidenfeller easily saves a weak header, after a great delivery!
  • 5'
Dortmund go close to threading Gotze through on goal, as an intricate Gundogan pass is just about intercepted. Moments later, Stuttgart break, but Weidenfeller is quick off his line to collect a long ball. Traore collides with him, and I think he's winded.
  • 3'
The hosts enjoy a lengthy spell of possession, but Dortmund are happy for Stuttgart to hold the ball in their own half. Reus has already shown his pace after breaking down the right - but the young German was flagged offside.
  • 2'
A slow start to the game here, as a couple of scrappy free-kicks are conceding in the opening exchanges. Dortmund have already shown they can keep the ball quite well following neat work from Sahin and Lewandowski.
  • 1'
Referee Aytekin puts his whistle to his lips and the game is underway! There's a great atmosphere in the stadium, as is customary in the Bundesliga!
  • STAT: The last four games between these two sides have ended in draws. With both sides in reasonably bad form, this run could well be set to continue today.
  • Dortmund are in stuttering form heading into this game, picking up only three wins in their previous six Bundesliga fixtures. The hosts are also in poor form, picking up merely two wins in their last ten games!
  • Dortmund line-up: Weidenfeller, Subotic, Schmelzer, Felipe Santana, Sahin, Bender, Groskreutz, Gundogan, Gotze, Lewandowski, Reus.
  • Stuttgart line-up: Ulreich, Boka, Felipe Lopes, Niedermeier, Sakai, Rudiger, Gentner, Harnik, Traore, Maxim, Ibisevic.
  • I'm Simon Harrison, and I will be the man in charge of keeping you all updated with all of the action from Mercedes-Benz-Arena, as the home side look to build upon their win against Eintracht Frankfurt last time out.
  • Hello and welcome to's LIVE coverage of the Bundesliga action between Stuttgart vs Borussia Dortmund, as Jurgen Klopp's side attempt to extend the gap between themselves and third-placed Bayer Leverkusen.
