Player Ratings: Sochaux 3-2 Paris Saint-Germain

Carlo Ancelotti's side were surprisingly outplayed in Montbeliard, and Goal.com was on hand to judge all the actors in what was a pulsating Ligue 1 encounter

Came up big when required by making a fine save from Ibrahimovic in the second period. Did not have a massive amount to do otherwise, though blocked a late Kingsley Coman shot. Helpless with the goals.

Most of his key defensive work involved tucking in to defend crosses as much of PSG’s offensive play was without width. In this regard, he was caught on the back foot on a couple of occasions, and a slight lack of position led to him being forced to clear of for a corner from which the visitors opened the scoring. Struck the post with a magnificent second-half free kick.

  • Cédric Kanté

    Cédric Kanté

Comfortably the most experienced member of the Sochaux back line, there was a great deal of responsibility on the former Nice man. Tended to be caught for pace when PSG had the chance to break at him, but covered well to get a block in when Lavezzi threatened to escape.

  • Jérôme Roussillon

    Jérôme Roussillon

Benefited from PSG’s lack of width down their right and enjoyed a fairly easy ride on the defensive front, though the youthful left-back was always present when required. Was sometimes over-ambitious with his passing, but more than one delivery into the box brought panic to the visiting defence. Scored an own goal, which he should have done better with.

  • Loïc Poujol

One catastrophic short back header to Pouplin was nearly punished by Ibrahimovic, but the goalkeeper saved the centre-back. Gave a solid account of himself throughout this game.

A tower of strength in the centre of the field for Sochaux, the youngster may still be a relatively raw presence, but he makes up with it due to his physicality. Did not do anything overly spectacular with the ball, but his keep-it-simple approach was effective.

  • Ryad Boudebouz

    Ryad Boudebouz

Produced a gorgeous pass to release Roudet to level the match 10 minutes before the break, and showed enough pace in his play to unsettle PSG’s back four. Was back to his best as he gave Maxwell a roasting with his imagination, though his final delivery lacked at times.

  • Sébastien Roudet

    Sébastien Roudet

The veteran continues to produce the goods for his side, as he slid the equalising goal for his side with a precise finish. Grabbed an assist with his part in a tidy one-two that created the second for Sio.

  • Vincent Nogueira

    3.50

    Vincent Nogueira

A hero in the centre of the field with an understated but yet extremely efficient performance that played a vital role in stifling the guests. Kept possession well for his side and was perceptive with his passing.

  • Edouard Butin

    Edouard Butin

Recently returned from a serious knee problem, yet he lost little of his lightening pace. In the early stages he frequently threatened to get in behind the PSG rearguard and was one of the chief reasons the visitors looked worried early on. Worked tirelessly, even if his influence failed, and was withdrawn with 20 minutes left.

  • Giovanni-Guy Yann Sio

    Giovanni-Guy Yann Sio

Handed his debut for Sochaux after recently signing from Wolfsburg and thought he had scored after just five minutes when he crashed a shot into the top corner only to be denied by a marginal offside call. Looked strong and willing, even if he was not technically the most graceful of performers.

Was not on the field for long, but was smart enough to pass the ball across goal for Bakambu to score the winner instead of trying his luck from a tough angle.

Given the final quarter of the match in place of Butin and came up with the goods to score the winning goal.

    Salvatore Sirigu

Normally such a reliable presence in PSG’s goal, the Italian mishit a clearance and fluffed a punch in the opening three minutes of the game as Sochaux pressed from the start, setting the tone for his evening. Helpless with the equaliser, he should have kept out the hosts’ second. Has never had such a poor match in France.

Although he made the occasional clumsy challenge, the big centre-back was more impressive than his Brazilian counterpart in the centre of the defence. His pace was a vital asset to the PSG defensive line.

  • Alex

    Alex

Opened the scoring with a fine looping header from a corner kick, but undid his good work shortly afterwards as he failed to accelerate to catch Roudet, who went through to score. Really looked threatened by the pace of Butin early in the match as Sochaux unsettled the visiting side, while the strength of Sio also troubled the Brazilian at times.

  • Maxwell

Another to be troubled by the speed of his opposing number in the early stages of the match, the usually reliable Brazilian left-back endured a rare below-par game for les Parisiens.

  • Gregory van der Wiel

    Gregory van der Wiel

Rotated into the team in place of Christophe Jallet, the Dutchman continues to find the going tough in France. Caught out of position as Sochaux levelled the match, and too many crosses were allowed into the area from his flank. Replaced after an hour.

  • Blaise Matuidi

    Blaise Matuidi

Handed the captaincy for the night, the lively midfielder was not his usual effervescent presence in the centre of the park. He was not as effective defensively as he often is, while his passing was wayward on occasion.

  • Clément Chantôme

    Clément Chantôme

Brought into the side and did not let Ancelotti down as he gave a solid performance in the centre of the field. Did not push forward often, but he won and then took the corner that produced the opening goal for Alex. Replaced after an hour.

  • Marco Verratti

    Marco Verratti

A calming presence in the centre of the field as he used the ball economically and intelligently. Did not lack for effort off the ball either. The Italian was a hive of activity throughout for his side but picked up his ninth booking of the season – a Ligue 1 high – and earning himself a suspension in a fortnight.

  • Javier Pastore

    Javier Pastore

Featured in a more central role than he has frequently of late and was not quite decisive enough with his decision making at times. His lack of sharpness was summed up as he failed to gather an Ibrahimovic pass at the edge of the box towards the end of the first half.

  • Zlatan Ibrahimovic

Dismissed in the Champions League in midweek, Ancelotti stuck by his Swedish forward, who was on hand with his usual flicks and tricks. A stunning back-heel released Lavezzi and then a delicate cross created a chance for Chantome within a couple of first-half minutes. Faded in the second half, when he was denied by Pouplin as he pounced on a Poujol error.

  • Ezequiel Lavezzi

    Ezequiel Lavezzi

Played almost alongside Ibrahimovic in attack, but this was an evening on which nothing quite fell in his favour. Went through impressively in the first half but was denied by a last-ditch block and then soon after the break he failed to make contact with a back-heel from an Ibrahimovic cross.

Substitutions

Introduced with half an hour to play, but his style is best against defences pushing up high, and as a result openings for the forward were few.
