  Phil Jagielka

  With Coleman and Hibbert unavailabe, Moyes opted to field Jagielka at right-back rather than his usual position of centre-half. The Scot may well have regretted that decision almost immediately as Benteke tortured Heitinga. On the flank Jagielka found Agbonlahor's pace troublesome, but not much else.

  Sylvain Distin

  Far better than his partner at the back, Heitinga, as his pace and power was able to bail Everton out several times. Some of his clearances were poor, failing to relieve pressure, but made a number of important blocks.

  Put in a decent display as he passed well and continuously tried to play Anichebe or the wingers in behind the Villa defence. His shooting could have been better, though.

  The midfielder was positive enough as he got forward whenever the opportunity came about, passed well and always looked towards the forwards. He was caught dwelling in possession a few times, but generally he was good.

  On the whole, it was a fairly typical performance from the South African as he twisted and turned his way past defenders and looked very lively, but his final ball often left a lot to be desired.

  Marouane Fellaini

  Not one of his most influential displays, but he did his job and ended up with two goals. Playing just off Anichebe, the Belgian was tasked with linking the midfield and attack, which he did well as he got possession through to the striker to good effect. Clawed back a point with two well-taken second-half goals.

  Kevin Mirallas

  The summer signing has been a big boost for Everton in recent weeks. Offers pace, tickery and unpredictability in attack and he showed all of those facets today. His deliveries were generally good and his interplay with Anichebe was fruitful.

  Victor Anichebe

  As Everton's focal point of their attack, the Nigerian had a pretty thankless task, holding the ball up against both Vlaar and Clark. However, the Villa duo had a real struggle with his intimidating presence, his goal as evidence.

  As the more experienced of the two centre-backs, he put in a better display, but not much better. Like Clark, he had little answer for Anichebe and his communication with teammates looked non-existent at times, while he was beaten by Fellaini for the late equaliser.

  The young Irish defender had a very busy afternoon, but he did not come out of it looking impressive. He was absolutely bullied by Anichebe at times, particularly for his goal and he looked a weak link throughout.

  Easily the least busy of the Villa defenders as Everton rarely attacked down the right, instead opting to probe from the left and the centre.

  Had a tough time in the first half against Mirallas, Pienaar and Baines all seemed to be playing in his area. However, after half-time, he crossed for Benteke's second in brilliant fashion and put in a decent defensive shift.

  It was not entirely simple to determine what role El Ahmadi had been asked to do as he struggled to ease the pressure on the defence, yet he rarely appeared in advanced positions. His passing was neat and tidy, however, and he kept moves ticking.

  He was hailed as a big signing when he joined from Wigan, but he is yet to recapture that form. However, at Goodison Park he showed a number of glimpses of his true ability, with some good wing play and encouraging creativity by grabbing an assist. He could be essential to Villa avoiding the drop.

  As a shield for the Villa backline, he was not very effective as he and Lambert's midfield were often overrun. He did, however, produced a marvellous cross for Gabriel Agbonlahor's goal.

  His pace caused a few problems and he looked dangerous when cutting inside, but, apart from his headed goal, he did not create much.

  C. Benteke Top of the Match

  Looked unplayable again at times as his physical prowess and close control saw him cause defenders serious problems. He got Villa off to a great start as he opened the scoring in the third minute with a well-placed finish and got a second with a brilliant header after the break.

  Has become somewhat of a fan favourite at Villa Park this season, but if he wants to become anything more than average he has to improve his finishing. Was very quiet throughout but was given a golden chance to get Villa's third after a great pass by Agbonlahor, but he fired over when one-on-one.
