Norwich City extended their unbeaten Premier League run to seven games after Robert Snodgrass struck to snatch a draw at Southampton.

Rickie Lambert capitalised on an unfortunate ricochet in the Norwich defence to put the Saints ahead but
the visitors rallied and Paulo Gazzaniga fumbled a well-struck free kick from the Scot into the net just before half-time.

Southampton remained unchanged following their 2-0 victory over Newcastle, whilst Norwich’s only alteration to the side that drew at Everton was enforced as Mark Bunn replaced John Ruddy in goal. The England keeper is likely to miss the next three months with a thigh injury.

The home side started brightly, dominating possession with Gaston Ramirez particularly influential as the Saints looked to test stand-in goalkeeper Bunn early on in the game.

The hosts came close after 10 minutes when the impressive Jason Puncheon crossed for Lambert, but the striker’s header back across goal eluded both the incoming Ramirez and Adam Lallana and the Canaries were able to clear.

The Saints continued to press and took the lead after Norwich midfielder Snodgrass gave away a needless free kick out wide on the right.

The ball was whipped in by Lallana before a ricochet off the back of Canaries’ captain Grant Holt hit the arm of Lambert before the striker prodded the ball home from inside the six-yard box. Norwich appealed in vain for a handball but the returning Mark Clattenburg waved away the protests.

The Saints were controlling the game well but allowed the visitors back into the game through a soft goalkeeping error.

From a free-kick, Snodgrass cleverly noticed Saints’ goalkeeper Gazzaniga's poor positioning and struck a left-footed effort around the Saints’ wall. The ball bounced in front of the Argentine goalkeeper and he fumbled what should have been a routine save into the back of the net.

The visitors started the second half brightly with their equaliser on the stroke of half time giving them the impetus, but could not fashion any clear chances on Gazzaniga's goal.

Southampton grew stronger as the second half progressed. Puncheon, Ramirez and Lallana were impressive but the Norwich defence remained strong, restricting the Saints’ efforts on goal to efforts from distance.

The half passed with little incident, with both sides' unbeaten runs continuing.
