Shane Long and Gareth McAuley grabbed the goals which handed Steve Clarke his second win out of three at the Hawthorns and consigned the Toffees to their first defeat

    Ben Foster

Had nothing to deal with in the first half as he benefitted from the good defending in front of him.

    Jonas Olsson

One half of a strong partnership with McAuley. Made an excellent interception to stop Jelavic from converting a Baines cross, although the forward was offside.

    Liam Ridgewell

Not as dynamic as his counterpart Baines but found space and used the ball well. His superb delivery was headed on to the bar by Long in the first half.

Gareth McAuley Top of the Match

Did an outstanding job in dealing with the aerial threat of Fellaini, either beating him in the challenge or keeping him to less threatening positions. Grabbed the second goal of the game from a corner to seal the points and cap a fine display.

  • Steven Reid

    2.50

    Steven Reid

Substituted due to injury early in the second half. Had trouble keeping a lid on the movement of Baines and Pienaar on the left flank, where Everton were most threatening.

  • Claudio Yacob

    Claudio Yacob

Did well to steal the ball away from Jelavic in the first half without conceding a penalty. Aggressive and effective in the tackle.

  • James Morrison

    James Morrison

Gained some good sights of goal by rushing beyond Long from a central attacking midfield position. Beat Distin to advance on Howard but the American made a superb save.

  • Graham Dorrans

    Graham Dorrans

Saw one through ball to Morrison just evade the Scot, but generally muted on the right flank due to the attacking threat the Toffees posed down the left. Substituted just before the hour mark.

  • Youssouf Mulumbu

    Youssouf Mulumbu

Formed a good partnership with Yacob, pushing the Everton midfielders away from goal and springing some good counter-attacking opportunities.

    Shane Long

Worked hard as ever and headed a shot against the crossbar in the first half. Created opportunities by running the channels, too, and converted from close range when Odemwingie picked him out with a cross.

    Marc-Antoine Fortune

Put in a good shift down the left but blazed one shot from a decent position over the bar.

    Billy Jones

Probably kept a lid on Pienaar better than his predecessor, Reid, had done, although he was sometimes isolated without help from his winger.

    Chris Brunt

Distributed the ball well as a late substitute, holding the fort in midfield.

  • Peter Odemwingie

    Peter Odemwingie

His excellent cross was the difference as Long tapped home. A bright second half cameo.

  • Tim Howard

    Tim Howard

Made an excellent save to deny Morrison when through on goal and preserve the deadlock. Otherwise untested in the first half, but could do nothing to deny Long after the break. May be disappointed to have been beaten to the corner that McAuley converted.

  • Leighton Baines

    3.00

    Leighton Baines

Threatened as an attacking option down the left, although his link-up play with Pienaar and Fellaini was not as good as it sometimes has been. One excellent low cross was cut out superbly by Olsson, although Jelavic was offside anyway.

  • Phil Jagielka

    Phil Jagielka

Solid and dependable for the most part, keeping Fortune, who cut in from the left-hand side, at bay and tracking Long when he floated left. Couldn't intercept the cross from which the Irishman put West Brom ahead, though.

  • Sylvain Distin

    Sylvain Distin

Shaky in the first half. Lost Long for the first real chance of the game, allowing the striker to head against the crossbar, and was then skinned by Morrison but rescued by an excellent save from Howard. Always stretched by the striker's pace.

  • Darron Gibson

    Darron Gibson

Everton played better when he was on the pitch. Withdrawn due to injury after 20 minutes, and the Toffees' control over possession faded after that.

  • Phil Neville

    Phil Neville

Moved to central midfield, where he is perhaps not as mobile as he once was. Kept things ticking over though and retained possession with simple passing.

  • Leon Osman

    Leon Osman

Up against a tough defensive midfield duo in Mulumbu and Yacob, so was most restricted to spreading passes left and right in front of the two opponents.

  • Steven Pienaar

    Steven Pienaar

At the heart of most of Everton's good work, but could not quite find a cutting edge in the final third.

  • Marouane Fellaini

Marouane Fellaini Flop of the Match

Was frustrated by the good defending of McAuley and Olsson and proceeded to blaze a fine opportunity over the crossbar when he received Mirallas' cross at the back post. Not his finest outing.

  • Nikica Jelavic

    Nikica Jelavic

Looked like he would snap on to any mistake the West Brom defenders made but that opportunity did not come. Kept well at bay by the Baggies' back four.

  • Steven Naismith

    Steven Naismith

Worked very hard defensively on the right wing but struggled to offer much besides the occasional cross in an attacking sense. Substituted just after the hour mark.

Dependable for the most part after coming in at right-back but couldn't prevent Odemwingie from putting in the cross that Long converted.

  • Kevin Mirallas

Provided an excellent low cross that Fellaini should have converted shortly after coming on as a substitute, but otherwise muted.

    Victor Anichebe

Arrived as a late substitute as David Moyes looked to rescue a point but could not make an impact.
