Boca’s title chances hang in the balance following their disappointing 3-0 loss to Arsenal at La Bombonera. The home side failed to create any real opportunities as Arsenal de Sarandi displayed a supreme counter attacking performance to grab three well-taken goals to stun their title rivals. Goals from Emilio Zelaya and a brace from Luciano Leguizamon were the difference between the two sides at the full time whistle, as Boca lost ground in the title race.

The game started in frantic fashion as Arsenal took the lead just 100 seconds after the game kicked off. A loose ball in the centre of midfield was played wide to the ever-impressive Carlos Carbonero in space down the right flank. The winger swung in a brilliant delivery for Emilio Zelaya to run across his marker and glance a smart header past the flapping Orion.

Boca’s best chance of the first half came from Nicolas Blandi’s well controlled chest down and volley inside the box, which brought a great save from Campestrini at his near post.

However, the visitors from Sarandi doubled their advantage just five minutes before the half-time break. Again counter attacking following Boca holding possession around their box, the ball was quickly played forward and floated over the stationary Insaurralde’s head. Zelaya ran on to collect the free ball on the right of the box and bided his time before playing a low ball across the box to the on-rushing Luciano Leguizamon to tap into an open net.

At half time, Falcioni replaced Juan Insaurralde with Pablo Mouche; an attacking move that resulted in Boca playing with three central defenders. However, Boca’s luck did not change as the continued to struggle to break down the compact Arsenal back four.

Arsenal killed the game when Luciano Leguizamon grabbed his second of the evening on the hour mark. Rolando Schiavi completely miscued a defensive header from a long ball forward, leaving Leguizamon one on one with Orion, before clipping the ball over the Boca goalkeeper.

Arsenal looked threatening all evening and could have scored many more had they taken the chances they created. Boca were frustrating and lacked ideas to break down the deep-lying back four.

To compile further misery on the disastrous evening at La Bombonera for the home side, Franco Sosa was shown a straight red card with just five minutes remaining for an obvious elbow to the face of Damian Perez.

The Apertura champions have now dropped to third place in the Primera with Tigre and Arsenal de Sarandi joint top with 35 points, whilst Boca trail by two points going into the last round of fixtures.
