    Keiren Westwood

Was tested with a few long range efforts which he saved comfortably. Didn’t have a great deal to do but when called upon was solid. Good handling and kicking. Excellent stop to deny Pjanic.

    Darren O'Dea

Could have scored after being presented with a free header late in the first half but couldn’t muster enough power. Struggled at times with the pace and movement of Ibisevic.

  • Richard Dunne

    Richard Dunne

The Aston Villa man had performed well against Dzeko, keeping tight to him at all times, ensuring he didn’t have any space. Made an excellent block in the first-half to stop goal-bound shot from the City striker.

  • Stephen Ward

    Stephen Ward

Had a decent game against Pjanic, as the threat from the Bosnian right was non-existent. Could have supported McClean more down the left to aid Ireland’s attacking impetus, and nearly cost his side a goal with missed tackle late in the game.

  • Paul McShane

    Paul McShane

Raided well down the right and forged a good partnership with Duff, whom he supported extremely well. Was sound defensively.

  • Damien Duff

    Damien Duff

The Fulham winger was extremely productive down the right. He linked up well with Doyle and on another day could have a couple of goals, but didn’t appear to have his shooting boots on.

  • Darron Gibson

    Darron Gibson

Was quiet in the midfield, giving the ball away frequently but was solid defensively. Could have scored after taking the ball off McClean but uncharacteristically blasted his shot wide.

  • Glenn Whelan

    Glenn Whelan

Had an early chance and a penalty claim after raiding forward but apart from that early burst he was relatively anonymous in the midfield.

  • James McClean

    James McClean

Had a good first start for Ireland. The Sunderland midfielder was full of busy in the first half, beating his man on several occasions and forced Begovic into a good save before half time. After the break, however, he faded drastically and didn’t have the same effect.

  • Kevin Doyle

    Kevin Doyle

Used his physical presence well against the Bosnian back line. Created openings for his team, he linked up well with Duff in particular down the right. Almost created a goal for McGeady with a lovely knockdown.

  • Robbie Keane

    Robbie Keane

Wasn’t at his best, but still provided a threat with his movement. Had a couple of efforts at goal but nothing clear cut.

Replaced Dunne in the second half and maintained a solid performance from the Irish back line, helping quell the Bosnian strikeforce.

    Keith Andrews

Had a couple of decent chances, none of which he took. Didn’t really have an impact on the game after replacing Whelan at half time.

  • Aiden McGeady

Aiden McGeady Top of the Match

Had a superb game after being brought on at half-time. He was the best Irish player on the pitch, creating plenty of chances and was real thorn in the side of the Bosnian defence. Hit three sublime crosses for Long and Walters, only one of which was converted. Has surely earned his starting place against Croatia in Euro 2012.

  • Jonathan Walters

    Jonathan Walters

Missed a host of chances including hitting the bar with a powerful header. Just wasn’t his day in front of goal, but at least got in the right positions to miss those chances.

  • Shane Long

    Shane Long

Great header to give Ireland the win. Showed good movement getting into the right areas for McGeady to pick him out twice. Unlucky not to have scored a second goal as he was denied by a great save from Begovic. Will have given Trapattoni a selection headache.

  • Asmir Begovic

    Asmir Begovic

Made an excellent save to deny Long his second goal but could do nothing about the winner. Handled well but his kicking was off, on occasions putting his team in trouble.

Solid defending throughout the game, stifling many Ireland opportunities during the first half in particular.

    Mensur Mujdza

Struggled slightly against the threat of McClean, occasionally switching off against him which on a different afternoon could have been costly. Improved slightly in the second half before being substituted.

    Sanel Jahic

Handled Keane quite well, was hard in the tackle and dominant in the air. Had a poor second half against Long, though, whose pace seemed to trouble him.

  • Elver Rahimic

    Elver Rahimic

Had a steady first half, keeping possession of the ball and raiding well into the final third. Was substituted at half time.

Used the ball well in the heart of midfield the first-half and protected the back line well before being substituted at half time.

  • Miralem Pjanic

    Miralem Pjanic

Had a couple of powerful shots from distance which gave Westwood trouble. Was Bosnia’s only bright spark in the second half but they couldn’t get him into the game as frequently as they would have liked.

  • Senad Lulic

    Senad Lulic

Caught out on occasions at left-back, struggled against the threat of McGeady which lead to Long’s goal. Raided forward well, but couldn’t fashion any clear cut chances for his side.

  • Zvjezdan Misimovic

    Zvjezdan Misimovic

Was his side’s creative outlet in the first half as he got the ball in good positions but couldn’t offer any quality with his final ball. Started the second half well but after 20 minutes, like his team-mates, began to fade.

  • Edin Dzeko

    Edin Dzeko

Had a couple of chances but couldn’t break free of some solid Ireland defending. Used his physical presence well and gave as good as he got against Dunne. Should have had an assist but Ibisevic couldn’t convert a simple chance.

  • Vedad Ibisevic

Vedad Ibisevic Flop of the Match

Wasted early chance when well placed in the box, made good runs behind the Ireland defence. Faded in the second half, offering nothing to his team.

    Miroslav Stevanović

Had a decent game, in the second half used the ball well. However as Ireland upped the ante late in the game he began to struggle, particularly tracking back against the threat of McGeady.

  • Damir Vrancic

    Stojan Vranješ

Didn't make much of an impact after coming on in the second-half, as he was unable help his side cope with Ireland's increased tempo late in the game.

  • Adnan Zahirović

    2.50

    Adnan Zahirović

Struggled against McGeady and McClean who used their skill and pace against him to great effect. Should have done better to prevent crosses coming from the Ireland left which nearly resulted in a second goal for Long.

  • Mehmed Alispahić

    Mehmed Alispahić

Could have got an equaliser but fired his shot wide. Was the best of the Bosnian substitutes in the second-half, as he was often in the game in the final third of the pitch, but couldn’t get his side a goal.
